Who's responsible legally for vet fees

Dog is in its garden. Six foot fencing.
Cat jumps into garden meaning dog chases cat. Cat grabs dog. Dog grabs cat.

Who is responsible for the cats vet fees legally and can anything be down about the dog.

I don't know the legalities for certain, but I wouldn't be paying vet fees for someone's cat which was injured by my dog in its own garden, no way.

I'd say both owners are respectively responsible for their own pet in this situation. If a dog's in a garden a cat may well come in, the dog's owner should know that. Cats can rarely be stopped going anywhere so may well come up against other animals on their travels. Neither owner is in the wrong, the animals are just being their own selves and acting on their instincts.

Why would anything be done about the dog? It's not done anything wrong - it's in its own garden and acting according to nature. Should something be done about a cat if it attacks a mouse or bird?

What do you mean 'done about the dog'? Are you thinking compulsory muzzling? Or putting the dog to sleep?

As a cat owner I think I would expect to be responsible for the vet fees for my cat. These sorts of things happen. This is one reason why I prefer having house cats.

I've had this the other way round when someone set their dog on our cat and the cat battered it. They can pay their own vet bills.

Cases like these have arisen before but AFAIK the cat owners have never been successful in England . As an aside nothing has to be done about the dog because he's done nothing wrong ,if people allow their cats to roam then that's the risk they take .

Of course the cat's owner is responsible. It's the risk you take when you let your cat roam round shitting in other people's gardens.

Cat owner responsible for its injuries. TBH, if it was my dog and it also got hurt I'd consider asking them to pay as well, as the cat should be kept out of my animal's space.

Neighbourhood cats are frequently jumping into my garden and climbing my fences, I have two huge lurchers, one rescued from a hare coursing background. They are on a lead when out and muzzled when off the lead in secure areas (not a danger to people only small animals). I can't see how I would be responsible for any injury to a cat on my property caught by my dogs.

The cats owner for the cat. Are you the dog owner and worried that the cat owner may seek to have your dog PTS or muzzled? I wouldn't think they could do anything about the dog, your property etc.

Cats owner is responsible for vets fees. If you let your cat roam you accept there's a good chance it could be injured.

Nothing can be done about the dog if it is secure on its own property.

i think the onus is on the owner of the cat tbh, cats roam but it's not the dog owners fault if the dog is in own garden. neighbour might contribute to fees to keep good relations but could just as well say jog on.

'Kept out of my animals space'? That's ridiculous KP. Cats roam - that's just what they do. My ragdolls wouldn't last 5 minutes outside - that's why I'm glad to have them indoors. Pet owners are responsible for their own pets injury however they occur. That's why it's so important to have insurance!
