Out of my mind with worry- to come home early?

long story short I've not felt myself since January with a wild array of changing symptoms.... Which doctors started to think were stress and anxiety related.
Had a transvaginal ultrasound on Tuesday afternoon after complaining about spotting between periods and pelvic pain. Went on holiday to Spain yesterday only to get a text from doctors to say results were back and to book urgent appointment with doctor.
Called this morning and explained I was on holiday could I have a telephone consultation with doctor as I needed to know. She said they have a policy not to call anyone outside England for telephone consultations and to make an apt for my return in a week. I pushed and pushed as I really need to know what the results as for it to require an urgent appt a day after having the scan. Eventually, Receptionist told me to call back at twelve and she would see if the doctor would speak to me. Called back at twelve and have been told that doctor will call me between three and six tomorrow.
I'm out of my mind with worry- I'm in the hotel bathroom crying because I know this must be something sinister to warrant the urgency. I don't know what to do/ I just wanted to enjoy holiday and relax after a crap start to the year but now this is hanging over us and I'm terrified. What do I do if the doctor confirms this? I can't stop worrying and my head is all over the place. Do I come home early? I feel so bad as I'm such a mess at the moment and this is ruining the holiday for DP and I. How do I take my mind off this?

I got a phone call like this when I was on holiday too. Freaked me out. I had to go in and take a new blood test because something had happened to the original one. I can´t remember what they were testing for or what the end result was, so it can´t have been anything too serious...

rainbowstardrops · 18/08/2016 17:45

Although I wasn't asked to come back immediately, a while back I had to have some X-rays done. I rang for the results a week later as I was instructed to do and the receptionist said that the DR wanted to see me. It was a Friday and so I worried myself silly all weekend until my appointment, only to be told that all had come back ok! I was obviously totally relieved but so cross that I'd had all that worry.
Hope it all turns out well Flowers

BabyGanoush · 18/08/2016 17:45

I had this, it's impossible to not worry!

My GP finally told me on the phone: "Yes, I just wanted you to know that your smear came back normal" Confused

Ever since I had an abnormal one 10 years ago, it flags up I think

BusStopBetty · 18/08/2016 18:18

If it was properly, properly urgent the hospital wouldn't even have sent the results to your GP, they'd have called you in themselves. Hope all is well.

Memoires · 18/08/2016 18:19

I've had it too - call urgently after test results have come in, or call to make urgent appt. What it actually meant was "don't forget" or "don't leave it for a few months". One occasion I just needed a telephone chat with gp and no meds changed or anything. One occasion I needed new meds. Mostly, it just meant that my doses were going up and I needed to be aware I'd need to take 3 a day instead of 2 or whathaveyou.

Keep calm. Enjoy your holiday (very very jealous!).

dowhatnow · 18/08/2016 18:22

Good luck Thanks Hope it is nothing. I do remember the worrying from when I was in your situation.

MermaidTears · 19/08/2016 17:15

Are you OK op?

Tooslowchickenmarengo · 19/08/2016 17:35

Doctor rang about an hour ago, it seems they found a cyst on ovary that the can't Say for sure is benign or not. Being referred to gynaecologist asap and for a specific blood test to test for cancer(?). Doctor said not to come home early as it was unlikely I'll get an appt between now and Wednesday. Not the best news but strangely I'm a bit more calm than yesterday - realise there's not much I can really do at the moment if it is terribly sinister so I shouldn't fixate on it. Thank u to everyone for kind words yesterday. Think I need to go and get a glass /bottle of wine now and try to forget about this till Wednesday.

I've had this happen twice.

Once was because they wanted to prescribe me antibiotics.

Another time I was asked to call the doctor urgently, I was really worried! However she just wanted to ask me to book another blood test in a few months time.

Try not to worry :-)

dowhatnow · 19/08/2016 19:52

Remember it's more than likely just a harmless cyst which is easily removed. Try to be positive. I know that's hard, having walked in your shoes, but enjoy the rest of your holiday as much as you can and keep posting if you need to.

INXS · 19/08/2016 19:55

Thanks for the update OP. Try and enjoy your holiday xx

gingerboy1912 · 19/08/2016 20:16

I agree it's more likely to be a benign cyst women often have them and don't even realise until they get big enough to cause pain. Then they can either burst and resolve itself or be removed. Try not to worry op.

It's far more likely to be something harmless than anything sinister.
At least you know it can now be dealt with. I do hope you enjoy the rest of your holiday and that once home everything is ok Tooslow

Tooslowchickenmarengo · 30/08/2016 17:27

I know this thread is a bit old but I just wanted to say a wee thank you to everyone who posted reassurance and kind words and also to post a very quick update to say that blood tests results for cancer markers were normal and following appt today with gynaecologist, I have been assured it's incredibly unlikely to be anything sinister.

I'm beyond relieved and contemplating booking another holiday just to make up for the bad timing of the last one!

Anyhow, thank u again to everyone- I was a blubbering old mess last week but your posts and advice were invaluable!

Cheers!Wine
