To have spent more time researching a tumble dryer than on buying a house, and still can't find the perfect one?

I have spent two weeks researching now...every time I think I have found a decent one (condensor or heat pump, preferably 8kg) I read a few terrible reviews and am put off. My budget is around £450/500. The customer service of some companies seems to be shocking. Who knew getting a simple appliance was such a time consuming business. They seem to be quite tempremental. I realise this is a first world problem but wondered if anyone can recommend one that won't break down too quickly and will actually dry stuff? And which retailer is best to buy from? Thanks

It only took me 10 days to find the house, which I realise is pretty quick! 😀

Miele , aeg or Samsung , in that order. From John Lewis.

Totally agree. I always buy from John Lewis and couldnt stretch to a miele so got an AEG. It broke for the first time in 4 years last week but it was a simple fix that i did myself (obvs with the help of youtube!)

Samsung one that matches bubbletronic washing machine. Got mi e and it bloody brilliant. Cuts down ironing, can plumb it in so no more leaky bloody water tanks and its sooo quick. Got our from John Lewis.

We've got a Bosch Exxcel. It works very hard for its living! We have had it for years with absolutely no problems (hope I'm not jinxing things by saying this!). Our previous Bosch tumble dryer also worked hard and lasted for years. It is vented through a wall to the outside, however, which is maybe not what you need.

I always buy the most basic tumble dryer available. I don't need it to calculatewrongly how long the clothes need to dry. Mine has a heat button for high or low and a dial for the number of minutes I decide upon. It dries a load in approx 40 minutes.

I do buy the 5 year guarantee as driers seem to go wrong more than other machines. John Lewis. Total cost approx £240 for 5 years' easy drying.

I have a Bosch
It's also good
I am happy with it
I got it from John Lewis too :-)

Agree with not needing fancy options

MrsMozart · 18/08/2016 13:57

I preferred our old one. Was state of the art in its day, though only really had heat buttons and a timer. The new one is all singing and dancing and not nearly as good!

Hirosleaftunnel · 18/08/2016 15:07

Miele all day every day. I have two one in flat here, one in UK house. Entry level model. The best, it's a condenser and I've heard they last 10 yrs. I have one that's 5 years old and one that's 1 year old. More expensive but worth every penny.

HereIAm20 · 18/08/2016 15:16

All engineers I have ever used say if you can afford s Miele even thrir basic range then go with Miele.

I need a really small tumbledryer to go in spare bedroom. It has a stupid narrow door

justilou · 18/08/2016 16:27

Avoid Ariston/Whirlpool like the plague.

PseudoSatisfactionBaby · 18/08/2016 16:29

Another for the Miele John Lewis combo

Waitrosesaysimessential · 18/08/2016 17:00

Thanks everyone. Was thinking of the cheapest miele from jl but it's out of stock and they have no idea when it'll be in. Ao have it in stock though. Hopefully they're ok

I'm not sure where you are but there is a Miele outlet near Oxford and a John Lewis outlet in Swindon that has appliances.

Like a PP, I also have a condensing Bosch Excell that has given over 10 years of service without the slightest problem.
