Very vague question

Sorry - scared of outing myself.

I was recently made an offer. It had a deadline. I turned it down as the terms were poor.

Since then the terms have been revised. If I wait indefinitely, the new, more favourable terms will kick in - but no guarantee of when. However, I've been told I can't change my mind about the initial offer as I missed the deadline. But the new offer is completely different! Everything has changed!

Is a chance to reconsider too much to ask for?

If they've made a new offer, accept it.

If they haven't, then I don't get it - you would be accepting the initial offer, surely?

They made an initial offer which had a deadline. You said no. So that should be it done and dusted... BUT, the offer has since been revised for the better but your not sure when these kick in, if they ever will.

Who revised the terms and who presented the new terms to you? If you are going to accept a new job the better terms
Should be included in any contract that you sign.

So.you mean you turned down the job offer and now it is re advertised with a new spec (wage, hrs etc) and you would take it with the new conditions?
Imo that's basically a new role which sadly they don't seem to want you for.

So you've missed the boat on the first offer and there is a period of time when a revised offer is up for grabs but you have been left guessing the effective time frame for that new offer.

If that's the case send them back your acceptance of the new offer and ask if they accept your acceptance, when you need to start.

I would also keep looking for new opportunities in case this one goes belly up as it sounds a strange way of doing business to me

Have they told you something vague like you will be considered favourably for promotion or can have a pay rise upon good performance - if it's not written into your contract, run a mile, I'd hazard a guess it's only being offered to attract you and has no chance of actually materialising in a sensible time frame.

If they offered you the job and you turned it down, you have to expect that it will be readvertised. Sometimes employers readvertise jobs with different wages/specs/benefits as they haven't had much interest

The only way you'll be able to take advantage of the new T&Cs is if you re-apply. And you may not be able to because many re-advertised positions come with the "previous applicants need not apply" caveat. If they wanted you that badly, they'd have contacted you themselves surely?
