DS broken tooth and play scheme

So I picked my six year old up today and found that he had a broken front tooth, split lip and scratched nose after crashing a scooter. The play scheme didn't know he had broken his tooth. I was absolutely furious, no accident form had been done and they were surprised when I showed them his tooth. He told an adult at the time he'd broken his tooth and the adult said he had done similar when younger.
I'm angry because it had happened at lunchtime and I could have taken him to the dentist straight away had I known. I am upset no one knew about it and it must have really hurt. It looks awful.
I don't want this to happen to anyone else. Accidents happen, but the way he was looked after is what is upsetting me. He goes there after school and they usually look after him well. I want to be reassured they will review their accident procedures.
They phoned me later and said they had an accident form, which seems convenient. I'm sad and angry and not sure what to do about this. AIBU to complain to head office or is it better to deal with the manager at the place, who to be fair was really shocked?

I have an appointment at 4.30 tomorrow, I'm a bit worried now. Obviously they didn't have the bit of tooth, his usual dentist was closed and the next one could only offer that appointment. Nhs 111 also didn't have an alternative. Think it will make a big difference?

My daughter broke her front tooth diagonally falling off a bike. It was shattered so no hope of saving it. The dentist did a really good repair job. Unfortunately after several infections and abscesses he had to do a root canal. But before then it was difficult to tell. Now the tooth is slightly discoloured, but he hopes to fix that soon. Hopefully things will go well for you at the dentist.

He might have to wait for the swelling to go down before rebuilding.

Your poor daughter, that sounds awful, glad it's a bit better now. He's being very tough about the whole thing, but is a bit worried the dentist will hurt.

Unlikely that they would be able to do anything with the bit of tooth anyway. As long as he's not in pain I'd think it's fine to wait until tomorrow. With dd I was doing the rounds of emergency community dentist/emergency appointment with her own useless dentist, a few temporary covers which fell off when she ate/drank. It took a few weeks to get the permanent fix (in the middle of which she had to change dentists). Stressful at the time, but all ok now.

When you do put the complaint in writing you need to mention that proper first aid wasn't carried out. His teeth should have been checked if he had a split lip, along with checking if he had a head injury (kids often don't realise they've bumped their head if they have a graze on their hand/knee).

I really hope you can get his tooth sorted. Flowers

Ginmakesitallok · 15/08/2016 21:56

Oh - and it didn't hurt at all according to dd.

This happened to my son at an out of school club. They knew he had broken his tooth but didn't tell me til I collected him much later.

Phoned our dentist who saw him straight away and he was furious with out of school club for not telling me earlier. As pp (dentist) said - the sooner they are seen the better.

Unfortunately he banged same tooth on another occasion (party at our home sadly on another child's head ) and his tooth died. However our lovely dentist (private) performed some sort of magic trick with the nerve and you cannot tell at all. Just looks the same as his other front tooth.

Dentist recommended I spoke to owner of out of school club to make sure she understood if a child bangs / breaks a tooth parents should be informed ASAP and taken to a dentist. Getting an appointment at a dentist could be a whole other story though Hmm

She says to tell him the dentist didn't hurt anywhere near as much as breaking the tooth. It was a bit annoying when he poked it with the "air thingy" but apart from that it didn't hurt more than it was already hurting. Brainy child had landed on her mouth and her teeth went through her lip.

This happened to my ds at school and the head teacher brought him home herself and then took us both to the dentist!

Accidents happen but they need to deal with them properly and they haven't at all.

You'll be amazed at how the dentist can build up the tooth, it's amazing and didn't hurt x

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 15/08/2016 22:19

And I would formally complain too.

I broke the corner off a bottom tooth a few months ago, it looked awful and I was stressed about dental work I'd say 25% of the tooth was gone.

I went 4 days after it happened the dentist popped on a composite filling thing it took literally 2 minutes and didn't hurt at all.

My friends DD lost half a front top tooth at 7 years old they did the same with her she's 11 now and it's still fine and I honestly can't tell.

My daughter and I hope it went well at the dentist and was not too traumatic for him. She says does he want to ask her anything?
