To think this is not just a hangover?

I went out last night and admittedly had a lot to drink.

Maybe 1/2 bottle of wine, then onto the gin/vodka. I'm pretty used to drinking and go out a couple of times per month.

Today, I don't have real hangover symptoms (eg headache) but my stomach is SO upset. I have been sick constantly today and can't keep anything down. All I can do is lay still and occasionally sip water.

AIBU to think this is more than a hangover and that my drink may have been spiked? I can remember the night but have never been sick after drinking before.

Consider it a lesson not to mix your drinks.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 13/08/2016 15:53

I occasionally got like that too, and it was mixed in with times when I'd drink the same amount and not get symptoms, so even though I knew it didn't seem like a hangover, no-one really believed it. (it wasn't as much drinking though, and more likely to be wine - which, in the end, I think was the problem. A very few wines have something in that I'm allergic to and caused a reaction like that after about 3 glasses, whereas normally I could drink three glasses, and although I'd feel it the next day, it wouldn't be that cyclical, hideous vomiting for a whole day). I still don't know what the mystery ingredient is, but I think it probably is some preservative or something; it's the only thing that makes sense. Luckily it's pretty occasional, haven't had a reaction like that for several years now, though I haven't drunk as much either (was more common in white). It's possible also that it was a kind of migraine, sometimes combined with other triggers.

JanetStWalker · 13/08/2016 15:55

I get hangover guild too, have it today as a matter of fact. I never realised it was a thing Shock

OP yeah, it does sound like a hangover, I had the same thing after too much pear cider, so fucking grim I can't even look at the bottles any more without feeling queasy. You'll probably stop throwing up later this evening and when you do drink as much water as you can, flush that poison out.

Certain drinks make me feel this way. I am now only able to drink a couple of certain types of alcohol or I am violently ill, migraines, upset stomach and a whole lost weekend. Even a little amount of champagne can ruin me the next day, I've even had a hangover WHILE STILL ON THE NIGHT OUT which was awful. I learnt my tolerance levels now I am older and what will make me feel awful, what types of booze and then I stop drinking and go to bed.

I've had my drink spiked when I was a teenager and I was assaulted. I remember being awake but unable to move, and the next day realised I had lost hours of my life. It was nothing like a hangover

Myusernameismyusername · 13/08/2016 15:57

I can't drink any white wines at all, no types and no amounts of it. I used to be able to but now can only drink red. I also can't drink cider and only one type of beer. I don't know what it is that I am reactive to

TheNaze73 · 13/08/2016 15:58

Have you had the two job bits with it?

TheNaze73 · 13/08/2016 15:58

Bob even

ZippyNeedsFeeding · 13/08/2016 16:02

When I was 18 I managed to convince my mother that these exact symptoms were caused by the ice cubes that pubs used and it was because of the ice machines not being cleaned properly. She didn't seem to realise that at the time I drank pints (classy bird,me!) and I wouldn't have had any ice.
Sorry, I know that doesn't help you OP, but it does still make me snigger!

LostSight · 13/08/2016 16:08

I could just as easily be co-incidental norovirus. You'll only be sure it's not hangover if you go out and do the same and it doesn't recur. Drink-spiking doesn't seem especially likely from your description.

toadgirl · 13/08/2016 16:16

The old adage never mix the grape and the grain is a good one. So no wine with spirits.

Wine is very acidic anyway. It may have been one that was rough on your insides.

Always eat well before you drink to help line the stomach.

You're probably full of acid. Take some Gaviscon or something and drink plenty water. No coffees or orange juice or anything else acidy.

ChippyDucks · 13/08/2016 16:22

God, I get this too. I'm a total lightweight, I had 4 beers last night, finishing at 11 and still had a headache up until an hour ago.

19lottie82 · 13/08/2016 16:26

Had you had enough to eat? I get hangovers like this if I drink on an empty stomach!

Just try and drink (sip) plenty of water, and hopefully you will be able to eat something later. I always find a nice cold can of fizzy pop (full sugar version) helps too.

bottleofbeer · 13/08/2016 16:34

I get such dreadful hangovers I barely drink anymore. If I do drink on a Saturday night, Sunday and possibly Monday are write offs. I'm SO I'll I can't lift my head up. Just not worth it.

DoItTooJulia · 13/08/2016 16:34

I'm a day after puker nowadays. Pits me right off drinking.

Coke and cake. Sleep. Water. Repeat. Throw painkillers in the mix. It'll be better tomorrow.

Snowwhitequeen · 13/08/2016 16:37

This happened to me earlier this year. Stomach bug I thought.

Then the next time it happened I realised my limits / tolerance has changed and my body has gone over the 30-hill and could not drink like it used to.

If I go over 2 large glasses of wine I'll vomit the next morning, it's assured. Whereas I used to be able to drink rather a lot and mix my drinks and feel queasy and unwell the next day but not, these days vomiting is a sure thing.

bluebeck · 13/08/2016 17:11

It makes no difference to me whether I mix grape and grain or not, whether I drink red or white wine. spirits, beer.

I just can't drink like I used to. Anything more than about 3/4 units has me in a dreadful state. Like PP I get the dreadful runs, wake up about two hours after I have gone to bed and spend the rest of the night on the bog.

Next day I feel utterly awful, sick, bad stomach ache, head pounding, tired. It can take up to three days for it to pass.

Unsurprisingly I don't really drink any more.

Lilaclily · 13/08/2016 17:29

I had a pimms, 2 large glasses of Pinot and a prosecco last night and today feel like death

I had this once, many many moons ago. I'm still half convinced it was food poisoning.

Trills · 13/08/2016 17:39

I believe that hangovers are a bit like roleplaying games:

Hangover pain =

your age (higher = worse)
x
how much you are used to drinking (more = better)
x
how much you ate (more = better)
x
how much water you had (more = better)
x
how much actual booze you had (less = better)
x
NOW ROLL THE DICE

Some days the hangover gods roll a 6.

DarkLikeVader · 13/08/2016 19:23

I had a hangover like this after drinking what was, for me, not a massive amount - turned out I was newly pregnant. Any chance it's that?!
