DH cleaning the loo brush in the bath... Who is BU?

So I am probably BU to have a loo brush in the first place especially as its presence has just resulted in a disagreement. Nonetheless, I'll proceed...

For context, we divide chores 50:50, although DH is happier to live amongst dirt than I am so I tend to need to coax him. I clean the bathroom weekly on a Sat or Sun, doing wipe downs when needed in the week. We've got a general rule whereby, if you create an unreasonable or gross mess, you clean it up yourself even if it's made in the other's domain.

This AM, DH went to the loo- I could hear him inside faffing around a bit, and then he emerged and stated that "we need to unblock the drains". It turns out he's had used too much loo roll, the loo has clogged and he can't shift it using the loo brush. I direct him to some caustic soda, tell him how to use it, and the loo gets unblocked.

Afterwards, the bathroom door is open and I hear him rinsing something off using the shower head in the bath. I ask him what he's up to and it turns out he's cleaning the loo brush in the bath using the shower head and rinsing it all down the plug hole. No disinfecting agent was applied. He finishes, puts loo brush back in its holder, and turns to leave the bathroom.

I am pretty disgusted by this. He wasn't going to tell me what he was up to, meaning I could be using the shower not knowing there was, essentially, shit in it. I ask him if he can clean the shower now as it's really gross, he objects on the basis that I clean it on Saturday anyway, it's no different to cleaning your bum, and I'm unnecessarily worried about the germs.

He questioned how else would he clean the loo brush. I answered that I generally give it a shake off in the loo water and that does it. If that didn't shift it, I'd chuck it out and buy a new one.

I'm now second guessing myself- am I really being too precious about the germy status of the bath? What is the reasonable way to clean a loo brush? Who is really being unreasonable?

MouseholeCat · 13/08/2016 12:14

This is the first time I've ever said this, but LTB. Now.

limon · 13/08/2016 12:26

Yanbu. That is absolutely foul.

GoldQuintessenceAndMyrrh · 13/08/2016 12:28

I guess the cold water was the only sensible thing in this. At least he would not inhale hot shit molecules steaming up his nose (and off into the room)

BastardGoDarkly · 13/08/2016 12:29

Oh come on, there wasn't shit in your shower was there? I might go so far as to say... urgh, babes that's a bit gross.... but that's as worked up I could get about it Hmm

GoldQuintessenceAndMyrrh · 13/08/2016 12:29

That was something I never thought I would be compelled to type. Ever.

Banishes thoughts of hot shit molecules

ExasperatedAlmostAlways · 13/08/2016 12:34

That is absolutely disgusting. imagine you filled the bath and bathed the kids. The amount of germ a loo brush harbours is disgusting and could of gave them any number of different things due to the bacteria. yuck.

HawkingsMead · 13/08/2016 12:34

At least he didn't put it in the dishwasher.

My DS out his fox shit covered crocs I. The fucking dishwasher. AngryBlush

I just seconded my suggestion that he, at the very least, went to thoroughly spritz the bath, and shower screen with disinfectant and give it a rinse down with hot water before I do the normal clean later. He's off to do that now.

We also discussed protocol for future toilet blockage incidents and he now knows where the plunger is located. He's also aware of the best way to clean a loo brush, and understands when to abandon it and just replace.

Thank fuck- the divorce would have been an expensive resolution to the situation.

Revolting.
Is he trying you make all of you sick?

celeste83 · 13/08/2016 13:04

YANBU. Thats just the very basic hygiene common sense. What on earth is he thinking of putting the loo brush anywhere near the bath?? Ditch the brush for good, bleach the bath and pretend it never happened Grin

queenMab99 · 13/08/2016 13:11

Where would you wash a baby or child who had poo all up it's back? If it was too dirty, would you chuck it and get a new one? Grin

mrsfuzzy · 13/08/2016 13:14

you'd probably clean most of not all off before you bathed dc/lo though, who needs a blocked bath plug hole full of that ??
