To want the cats to stay out of my house!

Not my cats I may add.

Lovely summer day in the garden with ds, come in put son to bed cook and eat dinner, hear a bang in the kitchen - a cat stealing food from the side. Having come though the conservatory and into the kitchen!

Last week same cat climbed in my upstairs window (over conservatory roof) and pulled bread off the kitchen side.

Both of these events have happened atleast 10 times each...

What can I do to keep other people's cats outside my house!

I just don't understand what you expect the owner to do other than keep the cat indoors

They could keep the cat on their own property? Plenty of companies sell cat proof fencing now...

Alternately if someone has that much of an issue with cats they could ring fence their garden with anti cat fencing........

Cats are a free roaming animal. If you try and keep them in you are going against what nature intended.

If a neighbour really had a problem with my cats, it would sit down and discuss it with them of a choccy digestive. ( and I have done in the past). There is nearly always middle ground that will work for both.

This situation happened to one of my elderly patients who was hospitalised due to an allergy. He now sits with the windows shut in the hot weather as frightened of it happening again so is a prisoner in his own house due to someones pet. He doesnt know who owes the cat. He not mobile so cant chase the cat and used to enjoy sitting with the window open watching the birds in his garden. Very sad...

Just spray water on it! We had one of those ridiculously brave, curious, thinks the world is their friend, cats who would wander into out neighbour's house all the time. Our neighbour was upset about it but refused to throw water at him as he thought it was cruel.... drove me mad. (Other neighbour adored him as he was brilliant with their cats and never stole their food). I even offered to buy a water pistol for them. They solved the problem by getting a dog.

Coolio where are you getting that cats are dangerous to pregnant women and unborn children? Do you mean if you trip over one?

QuiteLikely5 · 13/08/2016 08:09

Get a water gun, if you miss, chase the darn thing out and hiss very loudly, throwing a pint of water over it

Or borrow a dog - their scent can put a cat off entering the property.

I missed that bit Rhiwrites. A friend of mine had 8 cats when she fell pregnant and all 3 of her kids and she were fine........

If you follow basic normal hygiene rules cats ( or most animals for that matter) are fine

I have this problem. I have two cats of my own a 14 year old and a 16 week old kitten. A couple of weeks ago I went to bed and forgot to close the conservatory window , when I came down in the morning my two cats were happily sleeping on the couches in there along with three other random neighbourhood cats dotted around the room Grin

I think coolio has confused 'cats' and 'cat shit'.

Cat shit can carry toxoplasmosis which is a problem and should be avoided in pregnancy.
