Go in on your lovely exotic holiday. Take advantage of all the dangerous activities. When you have an accident and are in a coma/break every bone in your body the rest of us will club together to pay the tens of thousands of pounds of costs to bring you home through the magic of crowdfunding. No no, no need to get travel insurance before you go. What sort of fool does that?

[just been sent the third begging email this week for an eye watering amount needed to bring what's left of a foolish and reckless youngster home from the third world country he decided to risk his life in.Angry]

I always use Aviva. Good network, good 'reach' internationally, large company which is solvent and has a good credit rating, sizable claims team which is available 24/7 and with multi-lingual staff, access to international assistance companies. If something goes wrong then they look at complaints seriously and will try to sort things out rather than fob you off. You get what you pay for - and that's never more true than for insurance.

Re - drunk and not paying out.

This isn't always the case at all. My sister fell in a bar when dancing, after drinking - teen, holiday with friends, Ayai Napa type thing! She landed on glass, tore all ligaments in her ankle and needed an operation. She was then flown home early, leg immobilised so needed full row to herself, etc. Even though she had been drinking the insurance DID pay out. It wasn't an issue at all fortunately. So insurance is not always invalid if you've been drinking.

Fortunate indeed - although it sounds like an accident that could have been had if sober so they would have had a job to argue. Its those who swill so much they think they can fly who can get denied.

special subject - tbh it was definitely a drink too much accident I'm sure. Unlikely to have had the same accident if she had been sober in this situation.

And here's another one - diving of all things without travel insurance. It beggars belief.
