New tops, and new dresses ALL have that mildly armpit odour. Like I have worn twice. And I don't think I am smelly, my close circle are honest people - they would tell me. I am sure Confused

Is this only me? And has anyone got any fool proof tips?

I am buying white vinegar at lunchtime.

Its annoying as am skint so my 4 summers treats are ruined already !

((((((((((((Hugs))))))))))) OP.

I apply straight hand sanitiser and / or/ Tee tree Oil to my pits. It burns but it does kill the odor for the day

I put a teaspoon of tea tree oil in my washing water. it kills germs and smells

I have always thought it is the material and not the wearer,
I found this,

It turns out the bugs on the shirts are different from the bugs in the pits. While Corynebacterium is thought to be the main cause of armpit body odor, there was no Corynebacterium on the clothes. Instead, Staphylococcus flourished on cotton and poly, and Micrococcus, bacteria also known for making malodor, loved polyester.

It's unclear how Micrococcus gets on polyester clothing when it's not a dominant species in the armpits, Callewaert says. He's wondering if the bacteria might spread in the washing machine and is doing research to figure that out.

Which seems to bear out my theory

I second Mitcham. I use the flatish shaped one demented. it is a roll on but more like a solid cream than a liquid (like traditional roll on's) I'm probably not explaining it very well, but it is fab.

Thanks for the tips!

Grumpy

I have one polyester garment that did this. Overwhelmingly though it happens with cotton items.

How does that fit with your theory?

It doesn't actually smell the same as I do either... even a stale sweat smell on me is less toxic smelling than this! It appears to come out in the wash but as soon as it's been worn for a few minutes it reeks again (body heat?)
But it's much more likely to happen if I get anxious/stressed - apparently anxiety body sweat is more concentrated.

Vinegar sems to work.

I add a couple of teaspoons of bicarb to a pre wash. Does the trick for hard to shift odours

Dettol laundry disinfectant is pretty good. I pour it onto the armpit of the top and leave it to soak overnight then chuck a capful in the drum for good measure. I also only half fill the drum when I wash the top to make sure there's plenty of space for it to wash properly.

I wear mainly cotton tops but I have some jersey and viscose ones and I have a few of each fabric that have this problem, mainly a black jumper, a light grey jumper and a light grey cotton top.

I have bought ACE and a new Bio Liquid called pro active sports wash, in a grey manly bottle

I can smell myself, FUCK SAKE! I smell human. very human.

THANKS EVERYONE xxxx
