WIBU to offer mason jar- style glasses as wedding favours?

Link: www.amazon.co.uk/Tennessee-Handled-Glass-Jeremiah-style/dp/B00DUW4IIA/ref=sr_1_33?ie=UTF8&qid=1470823151&sr=8-33&keywords=jam%20jars&tag=mumsnet&ascsubtag=mnforum-21

I haven't been to many weddings and I'm new to all this so I don't know the etiquette surrounding favors. It's going to be a pretty relaxed wedding.

My idea is to fill them with Pimm's and lemonade for just after the reception but then stick a tag on them telling people they can take them home with them at the end of the day as a wedding favour?

I can't afford to do the Pimm's idea and wedding favors so it's one or the other, does anyone foresee issues with this?

Thanks everyone, good to know favors aren't needed!

I love the Pimm's in jars idea for during the photo's while everyone is hanging around so the jars will be happening anyway, it's also about £1.30 cheaper per head to do these than it is to serve prosecco!

Ohh yes good idea - everyone likes lovehearts. And you can sit and have a giggle about the ridiculous messages on them.

Love Hearts, fizzy cola bottles, Jelly Babies, Haribo of various sorts etc. Bloody brilliant and really good for while you're hanging around while photos are being taken.

I wouldn't necessarily want Pimms at the end of the do, and I wouldn't want to carry a sticky jar home either. And they will be a pain to assemble during the reception

You can get personalized Lovehearts

bombayflambe I'll shop around for the jars, thanks!

The ones I've seen in home bargains were coloured though, I want them clear so you can see the fruit, cucumber and mint in them.

It's a lovely idea.

My brother and SIL had something similar at their wedding. They had decorated mason jars on the tables that served as both name place cards and favours. Guests then went and helped themselves to cocktails from big dispensers using their jars as cups! It was very cute and most people took their glasses home (only a few smashed...).

OlennasWimple they'll all be assembled the day before by my lovely bridesmaids, my Mum and me, then kept refrigerated :)

All the servers will need to do is fill them with either Pimms and lemonade (pre-mixed in jugs), Scrumpy or apple juice and lemonade (again pre-mixed) :)

OP: WIBU to offer jars as wedding favours?
All bar one person: Keep the Pimms, forget the jars.
OP: Continues to talk about jars

I'm being ironic, OP, so many AIBU threads go like that, normally about much more unpleasant or stroppy things!

Your wedding, you do what you want, and have a lovely time

FayaMAMA ooooh I love the cocktail dispensers idea! Our venue serves cocktails so maybe I can print up cocktail menus for the tables?

StillDrSethHazlittMD haha so true!

The jars will be happening in any case, it's whether or not I needed to do favors/ have the jars as favors that i needed clarification on :) Turns out no one really does favors so I'm going to just stick a note on the jars saying feel free to keep them if you want :)

Morrisons at the moment have jars with handles and lids for £1, and milk bottles with lids for 50p. I just bought some for a hen do I'm being forced to organise.

Do make sure there's an adequate supply of ordinary glasses for people who do not want to drink from jars!

I made these for two weddings. Inside the roll was a ticket for National Lottery. A few guests had three numbers for a small prize. And if any guest did win a big prize, they obviously kept quit about it! 😀

We had mini packs of Love Hearts at ours. Cheap, consumable, didn't take up much space.

Wedding favors are a bit shit usually and anything big usually a ot get left behind.

Save the money and put more behind the bar.

I think it's a great idea lots of my friends have done this with jars or mugs acting as placenames and vessel for the night so people could help themselves to drinks. Everyone appreciated the idea and the vast majority took them home.
But I do think the cheaper the better and with a label is the way to go.

As for the handbag thing I have always found that even after a few drinks I could carry my shoes bag in one hand and a glass with a handle in the other.

The best favors I have had have been edible or a scratch card. Everyone loves scratch cards at weddings.

Why do you want to put drinks in a jar? Totally wanky and annoying. (misses the point about favours)

Honestly? They're ugly. They may be trendy but I don't know anybody that likes that style of jar/glass thing. And as said previously they're too bulky to take home if they are to your taste. I personally don't drink Pimms but I know most people do, so why not have Pimms with maybe an organza bag with chocs or sugared almonds. Dated, I know, but not as 'faddy'.

I don't really like favours but if you really want to I think small edible and not sticky is the way to go. Sugared almonds, kiddie haribo packs. Hated the guilt of chucking out a specially made fridge magnet.
