I'm glad MN hid it 'to take a look' before I could read. I read one of the wee troll posts a few years ago and that was seriously disturbing. Bloody hell, though. Every other thread I post on seems to be deleted for trollery lately, lots of reporting too. What's happened to the place!

Strangest night on Mumsnet since I joined

I've got a really stressful day ahead of me later this week, and I'm struggling to sleep. These threads have made me snigger a bit (more posters responses than the cut glass wit of the poo troll) and taken my mind off things.

But yeah, it's been an odd old night here on MN.

I am newish so was unaware of the existence of a/the poo troll until this very eve.

Did some googling and there are references going back nearly half a decade! I guffawed.

So pleased I couldn't nod off tonight.

I saw a poo and bath thread title yesterday and ignored it assuming it was a funny little anecdote about a toddler (been there). Was it not?

I always find the idea of a troll a bit silly. There are loads of people who genuinely have the views they post and are opinionated people.
I don't think many people lie for attention.

often when I've seen someone being called a troll it's because they have a controversial view and it makes people happier to believe they are a troll than have to argue with someone with genuine beliefs.

There's been a few threads where I've not believe certain aspects and on those threads I just don't reply.

Was the one where the neighbour threw cat shit at her face a troll thread?!

dran were you not trying to defend them last night, even though the had admitted themselves that they were a troll? So they person, by there own admission, was trolling. Why defend them?

There was one once who claimed she had shat herself on a train and was hiding in a toilet cubicle in Victoria Station. 100s of sympathetic posts and then someone said "I am near there, I can bring you some clean clothes." Of course there was no one in the loos at Victoria.
