my clothes aren't dirty, just worn once, or PJs 2-3 times.
towels and bedding I'd still wash at 60, normal wash.

does the 30 express wash really...wash?

I do most washing on 40 degree 30 min wash and whites and bedding on a 60 degree hour wash.

willowtreecottage · 09/08/2016 16:09

nanny Americans do love their bleach -true. Mainly in white washes/towels.
Although Clorox do make a colour safe version.

DesolateWaist · 09/08/2016 17:10

I wash my towels and my reusable sanitary towels on 60 in the same wash. there is also a toilet complete with toilet brush in my utility room. I'll hand in my log in at the door.

Nanny0gg · 09/08/2016 20:34

Yet no one has yet died in the house of Gobbler despite the probable constant contamination of my tea towels with the much feared faecal particle.

They may well not have died. However, it would be interesting to test your tea towels.

Nappies with towels at 40 degrees is just foul.

Yes people wash their clothes in rivers. And contaminate the water. We might be soft and spoiled but I'm happy with that.

BluePitchFork · 09/08/2016 21:19

if you were a food serving/preparing site and your customers came down with some nice e-coli or other nasty bug you would be in great trouble.

cinderellainyellakissedafella · 30/09/2019 21:14

I wash just about all our clothes on a 40 degree one hour cycle. I just use anti bac powder for poo, wee
, vomit etc
Towels, bedding bath mats are washed on a one hour 60 degree cycle.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 30/09/2019 21:36

I wash everything at 30 on a half-hour wash except bed linen. That takes an hour or so at 40/50/whatever (I haven't really paid attention, it's just a longer wash).

I'm still alive after all these years, even when said half-hour-30-degree wash has included stuff that belongs to my horse. Obsessive cleanliness is overrated.

Give over. I'm not eating my fucking laundry, am I?

@BrightYellowDaffodil you
Wash horse stuff In your washing machine??on a 30 degree wash??

😬😬😱😱

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 01/10/2019 11:07

This thread has reminded me to do my machine maintenance wash. Run it empty on 90 degrees with white vinegar.

My life is so exciting!

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/10/2019 11:22

Only came to say that if you are one of those who 'only' does the 30 degree wash (I use it for an awful lot of things- not underwear or towels though) - do remember to run a maintenance wash on hot periodically. The bacteria levels in the washing machine (flowing into your washing) are going to be something else if you don't!

Celticrose · 01/10/2019 11:31

You don't need to wash at 60° if you put some Napisan in your wash. Though I wash towels at 60° for the fast 1400 spin. It is a 2hr wash but I can reduce that to an hour on my machine do not know what I will do when my now 10 year old machine breaks down

thecatsthecats · 01/10/2019 11:32

I use the quick wash setting, and adjust for contents.

My husband would use Eco Mode (2.5h) and separate by every damn colour (3-4 loads).

I use quick wash, which defaults to 28m at 40. You can add extra time (making it 32m) or up the temp (making it 50m) or add extra rinse on top of that etc (55m).

I split the load into 2-3 small loads, and send them through, depending on the colour/contents etc.

Yup. And I’m still alive!

Cryalot2 · 01/10/2019 13:30

I rarely wash at 30 and would not buy a machine unless it gave me the freedom to do a quick 40 wash. I do most washes at 40 or 60 .
I read were you are not getting things properly washed at low temps.
Every so often I do a 90 wash as well.

NearlyGranny · 01/10/2019 13:36

Snap! Towels, teatowels, dishcloths and and all handtowels on 60° full cycle but everything else on 30° quickwash.

Most Australian machines do a cold wash and powders are designed for it. Not in Oz now but I do long for a Fisher&Paykel toploader so the odd dropped sock could go in after the cycle has begun!

MinesaPinot · 01/10/2019 14:09

My machine has got a 50 min 30 degree wash, and I use that for most washes with a 2 in 1 capsule. Towels/Bedding/tea towels etc go in on a 60 degree wash with washing powder.

I read somewhere that a hot wash with powder rather than liquid helps to keep the machine clean as the low heat washes don't necessarily kill off any lingering bacteria so once a week I set the machine to run empty with a bit of powder on a 90 degree wash just to give it a really good blast.

fruitinaheapisnotabirthdaycake · 13/10/2019 14:00

I use a 38 minute wash on 40 if my machine is not full or just has a few things in it
For general washing I use one hour cycle on 40

For towels I use a one hour cycle on 60

I don't think I've ever used the 95 degree wash setting but it's recommended once in a while to keep the pipes clean.

fruitinaheapisnotabirthdaycake · 13/10/2019 16:14

Bedding is washed in a 60 cycle

Aveisenim · 13/10/2019 18:10

For those washing undies/tops etc at 60, is there any shrinkage at all with the clothes? It's the only reason I don't so far, my limit is 40 degrees for clothes.

Rock4please · 13/10/2019 18:37

This reads like a thread for 1950s housewives. Don't your husbands/partners take responsibility for any of the washing, especially their own?
