Kids at the table

Just wondering at what point do you draw the line with children's table manners? Dd is 4, so young but still able to understand these things. She will happily burp out loud at the table closely followed by DH Hmm and finds it hilarious. We're only at home so it's no biggie but I don't want her to think it's ok in public and with friends which dd now does Blush. I could tell my friend was shocked when I didn't really tell her off for doing it. I don't want to be overly strict as I have the odd slip sometimes as we all do Wink but I say excuse me which dd and DH doesn't she just laughs and I don't think that's ok. Ds is 8 months so obviously it's ok for him to which I don't think dd understands. Any tips? What do you think, AIBU?

Hands up, I admit I've done the burping thing with my 5 year old DS. I'm afraid we all found it rather hilarious.
However he has been able to grasp the concept that while some things are ok at home they are not in public. Most of the time he is quite well behaved eating out.
My toddler, on the other hand, is a law unto himself.

My 3yo finds burps hilarious, and I find his happiness and laughter always makes me happy. I can't believe anyone would punish a child over such a simple thing.

OP, the memories your daughter will have of playing and bonding with her dad over whatever silly stuff far outweigh your friend's shock over basic bodily functions.

Do you have any child-friendly cafes nearby? We go to cafes a lot and my DS is well-versed in "out manners". This can easily be extended to "company manners". 4 is definitely old enough. At home with just the family I think you should try to relax and enjoy her happiness at learning how her body works. It is really quite sweet and funny and a lot of people would be well-satisfied with a loving father indulging his daughter.
