About the stench?

HeCantBeSerious · 06/08/2016 13:13

We're off to a garden party this afternoon. Fairly free and easy but lots of contact with other people etc.

DH, in his infinite wisdom Hmm, had curry for lunch and dinner yesterday and decided this morning that onion bhajias were the breakfast of choice. It's a warm and sunny day and he's already starting to sweat. He stinks.

He doesn't think he's done anything wrong. WIBU.

It does smell when it's sweated out through the pores though Eat, even after a shower.

But I don't get why it's such a big deal.

I'm pretty sure the people at the BBQ will get over it.

Eatthecake · 06/08/2016 15:15

If you say so Worra, can't say I've ever noticed it on DH or DC after curry.

WorraLiberty · 06/08/2016 15:18

I wonder if that's because you might have eaten some too?

I know if I eat curry or garlic with my DH and DC, I can never smell it afterwards.

Despite nearly making my best friend gag when I hugged her Blush Grin

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 06/08/2016 15:20

How many did he eat to make himself smell so badly after a shower and a teeth clean?Confused

Eatthecake · 06/08/2016 15:22

No I don't like curry. DH cooks it for him and DC only.

ATrumpIsAFartCalledDonald · 06/08/2016 15:24

I actually find this quite offensive. What do you think people that regularly eat this type of food do? Confused

Sparklesilverglitter · 06/08/2016 15:26

Your DH thinks he has done nothing wrong because he hasn't. The man had some food

I have never thought my DH, parents smelt of curry after eating one.

Maybe you have a super sensitive noise op?

And I think he'll be ok at a garden party, you know outside

Beeziekn33ze · 06/08/2016 15:29

Double application of deodorant and aftershave?? Take a fresh shirt or two with you??
Or gin and enjoy the party!🍸

toadgirl · 06/08/2016 15:30

At least it's a garden party. He'll be out in the fresh air.

Maybe bring some onion bhajis to the party? It's like garlic - okay if you have both eaten it :)

microferret · 06/08/2016 15:32

My hubby smells like an aromatic curry quite often. Sometimes it even happens when we haven't eaten curry. I sort of like it. Is that weird?

SanityClause · 06/08/2016 15:34

But bajhis for breakfast?

I quite often buy extra bahjis and samosas if we are having them for dinner, as the DC love to have them for breakfast.

I have recently bought a paniyaram pan, and have made them a couple of times, and any leftovers of these also disappear before lunch the next day.

I think it's garlic that particularly makes one a little on the pongy side the next day. And alcohol.

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 06/08/2016 16:08

For those of you who are confused that he is sweating out the smell of curry, I think how much you smell depends on your individual physiology.

I need very minimal spice and I can smell it in my armpits within hours.

As for people who regularly eat this type of food? I eat loads of curry, and according to my mum, I stink of garlic and spices. But I don't care.

I don't eat dairy and tbh I can smell it on other people, a sort of cheesy smell. That's life with other human beings I suppose. We all smell of something.

microferret · 06/08/2016 16:19

Yeah I generally don't care about smelling of garlic or curry. I think they smell nice. As long as you shower and don't stink of BO I think it's fine.

OP is not necessarily BU though. It sounds as though she is particularly sensitive to smells. Don't worry though, it's a BBQ and everything you own will reek of charcoal and cooked sausages within 5 seconds of you arriving so nobody will clock your man and his aromatic curry-pits.

DisgraceToTheYChromosome · 06/08/2016 16:21

Substitue DH for Asians and watch your head disappear in a ball of fire, OP. It's a minor variation on diet related body odour.

TheImprobableGirl · 06/08/2016 16:22

Yeah I would stand him near the bbq, surely charcoal beats curry? (In a rock-paper-scissors scenario?)

TheImprobableGirl · 06/08/2016 16:23

Disgrace to Y, that's a bit off the mark... She was making her dp smell less like curry, not less 'like an Asian' - WTAF?!?

CigarsofthePharoahs · 06/08/2016 16:24

Sympathies op.
I have told my OH I don't like him eating kebabs. Not because they're hideously unhealthy but because he always has them with extra onions and the following day he really pongs. He too can shower and cover himself in Lynx, but the pervading smell of onions persists.
It does come out in the sweat.
Hopefully there will be a BBQ at the party and nobody will notice.

Mother - I shared a flat with a student from China when I was at uni. She said one of the first things she noticed about Brits was that we all smell a bit cheesy!

trinity0097 · 06/08/2016 17:18

Cigars - kebabs are the healthiest takeaway available if you skip the pitta bread! All that Lchf goodness!

milliemolliemou · 06/08/2016 20:45

Onions, garlic, all the things most of us love - clearly some of us eat more than others (spices yum yum) - but equally some of us have more sensitive noses. Providing the rest of us are clean, brush our teeth, shower (and use something other than Lynx which is equally offensive) presumably we're all fit to go? Would think the OP BBQ smells would waft over and cancel everything out. Interesting some East Asians think dairy eaters smell bad - so not just onions and spices but milk and cheese. We're all guilty of offensive smells!

KingJoffreyLikesJaffaCakes · 06/08/2016 21:56

I went out for curry tonight because of this thread.

Interested to see how badly I stink tomorrow.

abbsismyhero · 06/08/2016 22:18

wash him with lemon juice? get him to chew parsley?

flush his system with water its all you can do

MotherFuckingChainsaw · 07/08/2016 00:02

joffery go for a run then sniff yr pits

Mine always smell exactly like what I've eaten

HeCantBeSerious · 07/08/2016 00:38

So the stench wasn't so bad in the outdoors with the smell of BBQing meat wafting about. Unfortunately the heavens opened mid-afternoon and we all had to move indoors. Where DH's spicy sweat smell was completely overpowered by the noxious fumes being emitted by the host's cousin. Of course he thought his victory in the "pickled egg eating competition" at his local last night was simply marvellous. The rest of us, not so much.
