To think this is unreasonable

My kids (15, 12 and 10) have instagram. I let the 15 year old have it when she was 13, and I have just recently let the others too. I made them put their accounts on private.
Some kids in the 12 year olds class have been reporting each others accounts as underage (most have put a real age somewhere on the account) so they get deleted. This recently happened to DD's account. The child who everyone suspects is reporting peoples accounts (also 12) had a major fall out with DD a few days before. This child has an instagram account too.
Am I being unreasonable to think that he shouldn't report others in his class for being underage when he is underage and on it himself?

maybe someone should report this kid instead, aren't kids just great for this tit for tat stuff ?

10 is too young. They should all have their accounts deleted and you shouldn't facilitate.

StrawberryMummy90 · 06/08/2016 08:47

Agree with PP I think 10 is far too young to have an Instagram account

PrincessIrene · 06/08/2016 08:49

Or maybe don't let your kids lie about their age to use social media? End of problem.

monkeywithacowface · 06/08/2016 08:49

Hmm 10 years olds being silly over social media, maybe that's why there are age limits. Oh and the privacy settings do very little to protect your child from graphic and inappropriate content.

usernxme · 06/08/2016 08:54

This isn't about the 10 year old. She has instagram because she doesn't get many texts a month and none of her friends are on whatsapp. I have the 10 and 12 year olds instagram passwords, which was a rule for them to get the app. I only let them accept people they know as followers. However my problem is, others in the 12 year olds class who have instagram underage reporting others out of spite.

The child doing the reporting is a brat, but you can't argue that the account shouldn't have been taken down. Your child is underage. All you can do is report snot-nose-snitchy-boy's account - see how smug he is then.

YumYumThePig · 06/08/2016 08:55

Well from the behaviour you are witnessing surely they are too young?!? And tbh I'm surprised you've put this on MN.

Get all of them off fgs. What on earth do they need Instagram for?

YumYumThePig · 06/08/2016 08:56

They will report outofspite

They're children

It's childish behaviour Hmm

PaulAnkaTheDog · 06/08/2016 08:59

Ridiculous. And I mean you OP, not the children.

19lottie82 · 06/08/2016 09:02

I used to work in an age limit led social media site that was popular with kids under 13. Part of my job was to remove those under age, and we wouldn't do it just on the day so of another child. We'd need full details from a parent, or evidence on the users page that they were in fact under 13.

Fianceechickie · 06/08/2016 09:04

Sorry but this will be the tip of the iceberg in terms of the problems you'll have letting underage kids on Instagram. Save yourself the hassle and make them wait till they are old enough...

ElsaAintAsColdAsMe · 06/08/2016 09:06

It's just kids acting like kids.

A modern day version of telling tales.

Notso · 06/08/2016 09:21

Children can be petty, most of them grow out of it. You'll just have to suck it up as your kids are too young for an account.

If you're too young to legally have an account, you should expect to have it deleted. It doesn't matter who reports it.

Why are you happy to allow your underage children in on Instagram? You're teaching them it's ok to lie if they want to do something they're too young for. A pretty poor parenting decision in my view.

specialsubject · 06/08/2016 09:30

Why not help the kids do some real world socialising?

Doesn't get many texts...that is really sad. They all need to get lives.

mrsfuzzy · 06/08/2016 09:42

i know i'm old and boring but i just don't see the attraction of ANY of this social media stuff ? don't people talk any more ? mn is the only thing i read / post on. it seems like a sort of brain washing nowadays from a young age that you have to checking updates, likes and commenting about total crap. ibvu Smile
