Sharing photos of your holiday on Facebook...bored?

It is holiday time of year & I am not of the social media generation (41) but I still don't understand how people have time to share photos of their holiday on Facebook. A couple I know are even on their honeymoon & sharing photos of their hols. Surely they have better things to do?

Sour puss, grumpy face. I love seeing what my friends are doing, because guess what, they are my friends

FuzzyWizard · 02/08/2016 18:33

I don't upload everything I take though. I might take thousands of pictures in a week (photography is a hobby). By the time I've whittled them down and post processed them (I shoot in RAW so they can't be uploaded before being processed) about 30-40 might make it to Facebook.

ChipsandGuac · 02/08/2016 18:33

What Euri said.

I'm the same age as you OP, and I think it's a little embarrassing to be writing yourself off as too old to understand FB. I posted a photo when DH and I had a rare night away. It took literally 10 seconds whilst he was in the loo. and it was a bloody brilliant night.

unless it's daily shots of lobster red legs stretched out on a sun lounger

We had a FB competition between friends uploading hot dog legs photos. Grin

There is a deeper circle of hell reserved for those who post their pictures on Facebook... And then the timehop photo of their holiday this time last year, and the year before that. FFS, seeing them once is just fine...

Branleuse · 02/08/2016 18:36

it all depends how you use facebook doesnt it. You obviously dont use it much, but top tip - theres an unfollow button on every one of your friends profiles, so you dont have to follow them if they post too much crap you dont like

donajimena · 02/08/2016 18:37

I really enjoy seeing facebook holiday snaps. My friend has just got married overseas but I couldn't afford to go (have you seen the cost of flights to Maui?) so its been great to see.
Another friend went to Italy a few years ago and she posted loads and I loved all of them. If you don't like them don't look.
I'm on holiday myself atm and whilst I haven't posted many because I have been here before I am now MNing as I have an hour to fill before I go out. I'm not bored.

Chihuahualala · 02/08/2016 18:38

Argh! time hop or "on this day" gives me the rage! I like seeing (not sharing) my own but I don't get the obsession with posting old stuff for public view!

Hulababy · 02/08/2016 18:38

Angelos - I am the same generation - couple of years older. I enjoy taking photographs, It is my hobby. I usually use my Canon DSLR or Leica Compact, but sometimes so some mobile shots as its quick and easily shared with family and with DD. For me that is enjoying things at the time. I enjoy capturing images of the things I am seeing and experiencing.

Yes, I could upload photos when back but I personally find that stranger than the odd one or two every so often on holiday. I do it not he go as that is what my family like - to see what we are up to at the time. When I get home I do my proper photos and get them sorted, but share them via my laptop or a photo book face to face, to those who want to see them.

Besides I am probably more bus at home than on holiday. I like some time out on holidays. I guess less of that at home.

And I am definitely NOT bored on holidays. Anything but. I just can sometimes spare the odd 30 seconds to upload a photograph!

Hulababy · 02/08/2016 18:40

Unless you are travelling by private jet to somewhere ridiculously glamorous, foreign travel isn't exciting anymore

Maybe not to you. Or maybe you just aren't going to the right places.
Foreign travel and holidays are exciting to me personally. I enjoy them. I enjoy seeing new places, and revisiting some familiar ones.

And why does this have to be limited to just foreign travel? Or is it okay to post pictures of UK holidays perhaps?

PNGirl · 02/08/2016 18:41

I upload ones of a nice location I'm in out of sheer enthusiasm for the place. I get excited and want other people to appreciate it too. I uploaded a couple of great ones from Bruges in autumn a couple of years ago (of the place, not me). Sometimes it's so my mum can see them, especially if it's somewhere she has been and I pass something she mentioned.

Endless pictures of knees on sun loungers and cocktails though - yes, that is Instagram-style smugness.

Lilly948204 · 02/08/2016 18:42

I use it as a photo storing system. Don't care if people want to see them or not, but otherwise they end up lost on a laptop, which will get thrown out and lost eventually.

FiveFullFathoms · 02/08/2016 18:43

It takes 10 seconds to take a photo and upload it to FB. If that.

I love seeing my FB friends holiday snaps and what they're been up to. Isn't that rather the point of FB?

Kangaroo1 · 02/08/2016 18:44

Wow... Lighten up! It's just some photos, not interested? Don't look. No need to accuse people of being lonely/having no life

Ameliablue · 02/08/2016 18:45

Perhaps because some people do actually enjoy seeing them.

How do you define "the social media generation" OP? I don't think there is such a thing! People of all ages embrace social media. Most of my Facebook friends are over the age of 50 and even my 91 year old MIL uses Facebook!

I don't think it is all about "showing off" though there are a lot of narcissists out there! Most people that I know use Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram etc simply as a means of staying connected to other people. It's like chatting over the phone or over a cup of tea, only you're chatting to lots of people at the same time and without the phone and the tea!

Anonymouses · 02/08/2016 18:54

Haha I'm guilty. I am only posting them though to people who asked to see pics! I've taken tonnes but putting up about 6-12 a day max. I'm doing it whilst in
Queues at Disney. It's our first family vacation and a dream one so people asked for photos and got them.

AnotherUsernameBitesTheDust · 02/08/2016 19:11

I'm 40 and I post pics of what we've been up to on Facebook. We're not busy 24 hours a day. I have family and friends on Facebook who I like to keep in touch with.

And I love seeing holiday pics, even if I am jealous as we're not going away this year.

YelloDraw · 02/08/2016 19:12

Why? Because it is nice?

I like to see photos of my friends holidays. We keep in touch via FB and can feel close despite geographical distance when you know what is going on whit each other.

Dontyoulovecalpol · 02/08/2016 19:14

That's what FB is for.

There is a big difference between "adaptors" to social media (ie oldies Wink) and those who've grown up with it. I don't think you'll really understand each other but that's ok isn't it?

AristotlesTrousers · 02/08/2016 19:18

I usually turn my phone off on holiday as it's pure family time for us so I don't really get it, to be honest, most of my friends only share one or two pics so it's not too bad. Don't get me wrong, I like seeing holiday pics (gives me ideas) but posted after they return, which is what my fb friends do.
Honeymoon pics do seem odd to me - get of fb and go and shag have a lovely time.
