AIBU?

Why does anyone buy "women's magazines" when the stories are so patently untrue: "Angelina and Jen at war in France" etc....

Just that. Why? And how do they get away with it?

I read them occasionally.....and don't believe a word of it most of the time. All these "sources" and "close friends" giving away information, pfffft Hmm IMO they are good for passing the time when travelling/on my break at work, especially when I don't have the time to read my Kindle.

I used to quite enjoy the way they had to be written, actually. Start with an undeniable fact, presented in faintly insinuating language. Move on to an undeniable, but also completely general and irrelevant, claim. Chuck in a wooly quotation from an anonymous 'close friend'. End with another claim that is, when you look closely, completely general. Job done.

"At 47, Jennifer Anniston is still single and childless. It's the age at which many women say they felt most regret for failing to conceive a child. A close friend of Jen's says "she was been in tears for days and regularly scours Indonesian adoption sites". When contacted by us, Jen's press office refused to confirm that Jen has immediate plans to adopt, but she has already prepared herself by spending time with her brother's children."

I have no idea why anyone reads this trash. I suppose it's cheaper than trashy paperback fiction though?

I feel quite sad for the people who write it, I imagine them fresh faced at uni with ideas of being an internationally acclaimed journalist and now they're writing articles like ' The ghost of Michael Jackson lives in my toaster, now I'm pregnant '.
