To go to A&E?

I've been getting horrible headaches and pain in my neck for almost two months now. Have also been getting pain/pressure in one side of my face (same as the above). I've seen three different GPs and none of them have done anything to find out what is causing it. I've had six appointments. I'm worried, I'm exhausted and I can't cope with it much longer. Aibu to go to A&E? (There's only
one other doc in my surgery and I refuse to see him because of the way he speaks to people.

It exists purely to deal with accidents and emergencies and, however you choose to justify it to yourself, going there for anything else is misuse of valuable resources.
Spot on there yorkshapudding

It is very re-miss to advise not seeking medical care, purely because of a poorly resourced A&E service

Nobody has advised OP not to seek "medical care". They have advised her not to attend A&E. There is a world of difference.

Several suggestions have been made as to how OP could seek care and treatment without going to A&E.

How on earth is it "remiss" to point out that the Accident and Emergency service is for accidents and emergencies??

Doggity · 01/08/2016 19:32

I have sympathy but unless your symptoms have dramatically changed, A&E won't do anything. They'll send you on your way and back to your GP.

PersianCatLady · 01/08/2016 19:52

They'll send you on your way and back to your GP
Exactly as they will most likely be miffed that you attended the A & E department in the first place.

Also if you are suffering from a headache I couldn't think of a worse place to sit for a few hours waiting to be seen because you will definitely be at the back of the queue.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2016 10:54

Because she has had it for two months and she has had all day to try and get a GP appointment and by the sounds of it not bothered.

This is really fucking rude. Unless you've tapped my phone and bugged my house, how the fuck do you know what I did or didn't do. I did phone the doctor's yesterday but they had no appointments. I'm on the phone now trying to get through again. I can't get into the dentist thus week either so I'm stuck.

Would you like to take a guess at how fucking desperate I feel to be even considering A&E?

I understand your frustration OP, you're in massive amounts of pain, you're trying to get help the proper way but no one is helping you, and it's obvious that there is a problem. Have you tried getting an emergency appointment at the dentist? Explaining that you're in prolonged agony and there's a very good chance it's dental related? They usually fit you in for emergencies, and if you're in so much pain you're considering a&e then I'd say you fit the bill.

gingerboy1912 · 02/08/2016 12:11

Op please book an appointment with a good oestopath I see one every 6 weeks and he is fab at sorting out things like this. And I agree with others try a dentist appointment and see if they can offer a solution. Be your own advocate and seek help from other places other than gp. If it doesn't help then at least you can go back to gp and say enough is enough you tried everything and if you still have it the gp will have to do something other than hand out naproxen and omeprizole.

anyname123 · 02/08/2016 12:19

This is why the NHS is screwed.....How does having a sore neck for 2 months place you either in the cayegory of 'accident', or indeed 'emergency'. I'd love there to be a way to fine people who misuse public funds

PersianCatLady · 02/08/2016 12:25

This is really fucking rude
It is not rude it is stating that you had all day to sort it out, it is stating a fact.

A & E is not the place for you. If you cannot get an doctor's appointment at your surgery, why don't you call 111 for some advice and see if they can get you an appointment at either another surgery or at a walk-in clinic?

Would you like to take a guess at how fucking desperate I feel to be even considering A&E?
I am sorry that you are in pain but that doesn't give you the right to abuse the system.

ElodieS · 02/08/2016 12:29

Neither accident nor emergency, but a walk-in centre seems like a good idea! Hope you feel better soon OP.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2016 12:38

Would you like to read what you posted again and guess which bit upset me? Oh maybe the 'by the looks of it not bothered.' I was at work and so didn't get to update this until this morning... Not that I have to explain myself to you.

PersianCatLady · 02/08/2016 13:13

Sorry but we are not going to agree on this and if you are well enough to be at work you are certainly not ill enough to consider going to A & E.

Not that I have to explain myself to you.
You are right, you don't have to explain yourself to me but you came on here and asked for advice and people have given it to you.

QuestionableMouse · 02/08/2016 14:18

Fucking hell. I'm really not well enough to be at work but if I want to pay my bills I gave no choice.
