to ask for a dry trim at the hairdressers?

Growing out a very short cut. Long pixie stage now and as it's grown I've ended up with a rather fetching mullet at the back. I want to keep getting this cut while the rest of my hair grows iyswim.

I don't want the rest of my hair cut. Just the back.

I don't want it washed. Will go to salon with freshly washed hair.

So far today two different salons have told me they 'don't do' dry trims and would have to wash my hair first Hmm.

I would cut it myself but I can't see the back of my own head even with the elaborate mirror positioning I've tried.

So presumably they want to charge me for a wash + trim + styling as opposed to just cutting the goddamn bit I want them to?

Not even big name salons. Just local places Confused.

God I don't have the patience you have.
After your shower tomorrow, tie the wet hair in a ponytail and chop where you want it cut. Then dry as usual.
Job done.

I always have a dry cut at my hairdressers because I'm too tight to pay for a wet cut. IMO 'dry cut' is a bit misleading as they damp the hair down with a water spray and then cut it. Keep ringing round OP, someone will surely do it.

Maybe find someone who does children's hair. I can't see that the hairdresser would go through the rigmarole of washing a toddlers hair. My hairdresser is great. If I think about it I've only known her cut wet - as in wet from washing - hair if it's been a complete restyle from long to short. Otherwise it's damping it with a spray bottle and cutting. She also cuts my girls' hair. One very long and thick, the other much more curly. Mine is somewhere between the 2.

1 hairdressers near me
Refused. I was so pissed off Had just had shoulder reconstruction and was in a sling and immobiliser strap, also had my shoulder filed/sawn so couldn't be touched at all, couldn't lean, nothing
They refused and
Said it was a health and safety issue

Went
Next doors but 2 and they've been cutting my hair ever since. lol
I hate the way it gets blow dried, don't like
Fuss and get self conscious with my hideousness with no hair so dry cut for me all the way!

I'm a hairdresser and am amazed by all the people who think you are paying for the wash not the cut.

We do wet cut appointments . Wash cut and left wet for £29

Wash cut and blow dry for £36.95.

Why would I cut my bill in half to not wash your hair when the wash is a very small part of the service.

Also touching unwashed hair and scalp is very unpleasant.
I will spray down hair for those that don't want it washed but would still charge for a wet cut.
It still takes the same amount of time .

My hair is horridly wavy kinky and wurly. Dry cuts work best for me

I would try mobile hairdressers and also possibly one who is, ahem, more mature. The lady who cuts dd's hair actually prefers to cut dry and I get the impression that this was the way she was taught (she also cut dh's when he was little and he's 38 so she must be at least mid 50s). Personally I would always go for a wet cut as my hair is very thick and wavy so I don't think it's possible to get it straight otherwise but for a trim if your hair is fairly straight, I'd imagine it would be fine (not that I'm an expert of course!!)
