AIBU?

Veggie wedding question

We are currently mid last minute wedding plans. In the evening we are having a 7 piece buffet for guests. Day guests will have had 3 course dinner but for evening guests this will be their only food. We have a choice of about 20 delicious items but cannot come to a decision about how many items out of the 7 should be veggie. Partner thinks 2 out of 7 should be veggie. I would rather 3 or 4 veggie items as 2 items of food e.g. a couple of veggie samosas and a Halloumi skewer is not enough for vegetarians and meat eaters will surely eat veggies foods too. He is a big meat eater and is making a fuss. There are likely to be about 10 vegetarians out of 150 guests. AIBU?

3 or 4 is really thoughtful as a lot of the time people only do 1 or 2 and it's really difficult when you don't eat meat. As everyone has pointed out; meat eaters also eat vegetables!

I'd also do 3 veggie, 3 meat and the prawns...only because id be taking the entire tray of prawns for myself!

Nachos are fab but would soon get into a complete mess on the serving plates and just look a bit cheap. Confused

I eat meat, but your veggie selection sounds gorgeous!

I would choose 4 veggie options, prawns and 2 meat.

Have you decided yet?!

Whatever you decide just make sure there's enough for everyone. I've recently been to a wedding. I'm coeliac and at the evening buffet I had one choice of dish, which was meat (luckily I'm not veggie too) so I was left hungry (and drunk!)

You sound very considerate OP and have made me realise that I'm being very inconsiderate with our wedding evening buffet. The "buffet" is actually hot sausage or bacon baps with chips, so... I hope the vegetarians enjoy chips Grin

In fairness chips are all I can have too so they can suffer with me.

I'm a big meat eater and would eat veggie food, I quite like the variety so YANBU to suggest 3 or 4

I know you are really thinking about evening guest, but tbh I think evening only invite is very poor taste.

To me I hate all this day/evening divide.

I'd probably go for veggie samosas (meat eaters won't even notice) and have another 3 veggie options and two meat options.
Is there a reason why you are limited to 7 choices, do you pay per head, or per item choice?

Which is an attitude I've never ever come across in real life. It's not in the slightest bit relevant to the thread.

Op uou sound lovely and considerate. I'm sure everyone will love your wedding.

All the food options sound delicious. I would go at least 5:2 veggie and I love meat. If people are rude enough to complain there's not enough meat at your evening buffet they deserve to get only the leftovers.

I'm a meat eater. I'd go with 3 veggie, 3 meat and 1 prawn.

Billy, the venue will have a rough guide to choose from, it obviously will be less work for them to make 7 items as opposed to 20. Also if there is more choice then people will take more so more food which would mean a higher cost. It is generally a price per head. Evening buffet is just like a little snack or supper.

I dont know how you will choose just seven they all sound delicious meat and veggie.

I would say 4 veggie, 3 meat and skip the prawn.
