To love Adele

I just think she's a fab role model, not all perfect and skinny or airbrushed. She was fab at Glasto. Nice and refreshing to have such a great singer who is just, well, herself.

possibly I mean weight in the above post- who doesn't care as much about their weight and it doesn't define them. Her talent defines her, rather than how she looks.

No problem with the OP/her liking Adele just the weird indirect body shaming comment/the OP mostly being about Adele's appearance as if that's what she should be judged on before her singing

I think the OP was just saying that in an industry that generally churns out people (and when I say 'people' i mean women - male artists are noot generally so subject to having to look a certain way to be successful) with a particular appearance, its refreshing to have someone like Adele who doesn't fit that and seems perfectly happy with that.

Brandonstarkflakes · 28/07/2016 16:30

Although she is definitely airbrushed in promotional stuff!

PortiaCastis · 28/07/2016 16:30

Yes I don't think she needs to swear but there are far worse examples of deliberate bad language. Who cares about her size I'm sure she's not bothered, wish I could sing but I sound like a fornicating cat

Sallystyle · 28/07/2016 16:33

I like her too.

I don't like her lyrics that much, but she has a great voice and I like her personality.

I think she is one of the better role models out there- not that I want my kids to look up to anyone famous.

She's an obnoxious loudmouth whose music honks worse than week old knob cheese. Her musical palate is so pedestrian that she's made the same album three times and if her lyrics were written in a letter she'd get an injunction taken out against her for stalking.

Grin

You're not wrong.

LovelyBath77 · 28/07/2016 17:26

I like Turning Tables, as it has lyrics which resonate with me about going NC with some family, what's yours Need a Scarf?

She writes the song, sings the song, makes absolutely shitloads of money from the song.

Fair play.

Inkanta · 28/07/2016 17:50

Yes, she sure can sing and pretty too ...and down to earth.

Natsku · 28/07/2016 17:54

I love her voice. The songs are bit boring and all but I listen to them just for the voice. Wish I could sing like that.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 28/07/2016 18:06

her voice reminds me a bit of Alison Moyet who I used to idolise in the 80's because she could sing and was not another skinny role model.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2016 18:09

I love her music, I love her voice and I think she comes across as a very down to earth person.

However, I have no idea (and I doubt anyone here has either) whether she is bothered by her weight or not.

DownWithThisSortaThing · 28/07/2016 18:22

I am not bothered either way about her. She's got a really good voice but the musics not really my cup of tea.
But I do find it patronising and slightly embarrassing the way her weight is often brought up when people talk about her, as though because she's not a size 8 she's therefore a good role model.
Or when people say something like 'did you see Adele on tv last night? She actually looked good didn't she?!' As though it's a surprise for someone to be overweight and still look good. it's a bit cringey like people are secretly thinking 'not bad for a fat bird'.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2016 18:26

I think when it comes to weight, parents are the biggest role models.

Not Adele or anyone else on the TV.

WorraLiberty · 28/07/2016 18:28

Ha! I didn't mean 'biggest' as in size Grin Blush

I meant most influential role models.

bigreendumbell · 28/07/2016 18:32

I just think she's a fab role model, not all perfect and skinny or airbrushed.

Does it make you feel good to skinny shame people?

bigreendumbell · 28/07/2016 18:35

The OP just started a nice thread about a singer.

''Not all skinny and airbrushed''

Imagine if the word skinny was replaced with fat'
Would you still think it's a nice thread?

PortiaCastis · 28/07/2016 18:49

It is a nice thread about a singer. I suffered from anorexia and still very skinny but I haven't taken umbrage. Anorexic because exdh kept on about my weight. I have been both fat and thin and don't take offence easily now I'm rid of the person who wanted me to change.
Adele is a singer kudos to her for doing so well.

straightouttacompton · 28/07/2016 18:57

I love her. Extremely talented as a singer and a song - writer and seems like a lovely person.

I've never cared about her size but she's definitely airbrushed in lots of photos (show me a celeb who isn't) and is proof that a lot of people could look 100% better with professional hair/make up/styling. She's stunning now (in live events, not just air-brushed pictures) and she really wasn't in her early days of success.

She always had a prettiness but she's gorgeous now.

LovelyBath77 · 28/07/2016 19:28

Sorry if I skinny shamed, it wasn't intentional.

She did comment about her weight, that she wouldn't lose weight to sell records, that it was just the way she was.

OP posts:
BalloonSlayer · 28/07/2016 19:37

I do like her but she only writes the lyrics doesn't she? Not the whole song

GirlOverboard · 28/07/2016 20:04

Whenever you read a Mail Online article about her, everyone gushes over how real, how genuine, how normal looking, how down to earth she is. It's the same with Ed Sheeran. I never really understood that. I like my popstars to be beautiful, have perfect bodies, be glamorous, diva-ish, stylish and enigmatic. I don't like popstars who I can imagine standing behind me in the queue at Tesco. Just my preference though - YANBU to love her.
