To amputate my own ear with a sushi knife?

I have ear ache. Actually, no, I've had ear ache for five days, this is now beyond ear ache and is now ear burning pits of hell.

I've been trying to get a dr's spot for 2 days but all the emergency ones go before I can even get through. Apparently a nurse cannot look in my ear. Well they can but not for that reason, so I can't see a nurse.

WIBU to take a nice sharp knife to myself and just remove it. It would probably hurt less than lying here crying.

My DH suffers terribly from earache & infections. If you think the ear drum is ready to perforate anyway then sneeze while holding your nose.

The ear drum will perforate & the relief will be immense. Then get a Drs appt tomorrow for antibiotics.

I am not a medical expert & do not suggest this as a sensible course of action. However, if you are desperate at 4am.....

lulucappuccino · 28/07/2016 00:25

Get children out of bed (school hols after all) and get a taxi to OOH.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/07/2016 00:29

Oh and if you really want the permanent solution we have a massive circular saw in our house (building site atm) that the builders use to cut the steel beams with. I could have a go at removing your ear..should be just one swift movement! Wink Grin

memyselfandaye · 28/07/2016 00:30

Tell the receptionist you want a home visit, they usually manage to magic up a same day emergency appointment if you say that at our surgery.

Failing that you have to go to out of hours, take the kids with you, it's not like they have to be up for school the next day.

You don't have to be a genius to work out you need antibiotics because you have an infection.

It sounds awful, you have my sympathy Flowers

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/07/2016 00:32

Actually I second lulu's suggestion. Wake up the kids and go. Now.

AGnu · 28/07/2016 00:36

Put some rice in a bit of an old pair of tights, warm in the microwave. Put it in a sock for softness. Much easier than faffing about with wet flannels!

Welshmaenad · 28/07/2016 07:54

You are all so lovely, particularly zing though I couldn't possibly drag you all the way to Wales! Actually did fall asleep for a bit though had a really broken night - just steeling myself to ring the GP. Children have a sport camp thing today so will at least have some peace.

Welshmaenad · 28/07/2016 08:02

I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT!

OP posts:
Notso · 28/07/2016 08:05

Hope you are ringing now. All the appointments were gone by 8:10 when I tried to get one for DD.

Notso · 28/07/2016 08:06

X post! Great hope you are sorted soon Flowers

JustDanceAddict · 28/07/2016 08:09

Ring 111 - they can call your GP and should be able to get you an appt. happened to me once for DS, but maybe that was because he's a child?

Bettercallsaul1 · 28/07/2016 08:24

Hooray - hope those antibiotics kick in fast!

QueenLaBeefah · 28/07/2016 08:25

Hope you feel better soonFlowers

Welshmaenad · 28/07/2016 10:38

You know it's bad when your usually stoic GP glances in your ear and goes "ooooooooh!".

ABX duly acquired and I'm going for a nap. Thanks again vipers xx

OP posts:
ProcrastinatorGeneral · 28/07/2016 10:50

The 'ooooh' is always a decent indicator. My GP once did that when looking at my daughters tonsils. He offered me a peek too, there was barely a gap between them!

Hope the antibobs kick in swiftly:)

ArmySal · 28/07/2016 11:08

It is the worst pain in the world. Hope it's sorted soon.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 28/07/2016 16:20

Welsh
So happy you got your drugs now.👍
Wales would've been a touch tricky I admit. When is that damn teleportation going to finally materialise?!

I hope you are feeling a bit better already. I felt so sorry for you last night.
And your DD was so so lovely comforting you, bless her, what a star! Star

BlackeyedSusan · 28/07/2016 17:26

thank fuck for that. hope they work quickly. been at the point of screaming with ear ache... not voluntary screaming either.

IJustLostTheGame · 28/07/2016 18:44

Hope you feel better OP. I'm glad you didn't have to resort to Van Goghing yourself

Welshmaenad · 29/07/2016 06:52

zing you restored my faith in humanity and gave me a reason to soldier on, I cannot thank you enough!

Still niggly but SO much better, got a much better nights sleep last night. My DD is an angel, she spent yesterday afternoon/evening fussing over me, getting me coffee/drinks/snacks as she was concerned I wasn't eating, and then came and got into bed with me and gave me a lecture about taking it easy and resting to get better. She's so funny.

Bettercallsaul1 · 29/07/2016 13:24

That is great, OP - glad you are feeling a lot better. Feeling ill at night-time is scary - you feel so helpless.

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 11/08/2016 10:08

I trust you're ok now Welsh
