Dd1 needs braces. She has been assessed by an orthodontist etc and had xrays last week to check whether or not there was a molar under her final baby tooth which there is thankfully. Ortho called earlier and said she was referring her back to dentist to have the last baby tooth pulled, I've said I want it to come out itself as it's already wobbly and the next ortho appointment isn't for a year.

AIBU? As I'm now doubting myself!

Did anyone actually read jesterkat 's professional post? I ALWAYS do what my dentist suggests - seriously. Teeth are tricky things.

(DD1 had one in the roof of her mouth, had to have chain attached to pull it to gum, extractions, operation etc etc). I think dentists are ace - but I'm shit scared of them too. I had to have loads of my baby teeth out by gas, and I can still see that gas mask coming towards my face even now....

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/07/2016 17:02

Errr, yes and did you read the OP's update OhNo?

hownottofuckup · 27/07/2016 18:31

I tend not to take it as read when people offer a professional opinion on an anonymous forum (nothing against jest)
Talking again to the ortho seems logical.
Glad you got it sorted OP.

No offence taken howto!
Completely understand iam, we're a friendly bunch (usually) but not dismissing your perfectly natural fears given your experiences
You can always try to speed up it coming out by letting her eat a nice hard pear. Or something chewy.
Hope ive helped x

Chippednailvarnishing · 27/07/2016 20:39

DH was 36 when the tooth fairy last visited!

kurlique · 27/07/2016 20:45

make the appt... They are usually a few weeks away when you book them In my experience but then encourage her to wobble it out in the meantime... My DSis had to have teeth out because of overcrowding and she wobbled half of them (3 if I remember correctly) out before the appt which was only a couple of weeks later and they weren't even wobbly! Having gone through the trauma of watching my DC have 2 non-wobbly teeth out, I would be prepared to bribe her too!!

MiddleClassProblem · 27/07/2016 20:45

Did he get interest too?

Chippednailvarnishing · 27/07/2016 21:24

Interest? No he got a massive bill for a bridge to fill the gap, as there wasn't an adult tooth above it!

MiddleClassProblem · 27/07/2016 21:41

Invoice that fairy. I'm sure dentists have a form for this.

Chippednailvarnishing · 27/07/2016 23:17

I suspect it was the same fairy that visited when he was a kid, which explains why it didn't bring any money as it had it's hands full with the zimmer frame.

Looking on the bright side he wasn't suitable for an implant, so we saved a bit.

Oh yes, I have memories of a tooth coming out stuck in the middle of a piece of toffee. I don't envy my mum having to dive under the pillow for that one, even if I had wrapped it in paper Grin

I did also get another wobbly one out by tying a thread round it and the other end round the door handle, and getting DB to shut the door...... Didn't hurt so must have been ready to come out. This was many many, many, many.... years ago

That's good, I am sure it will be absolutely fine and then she will have a bit of time for her teeth to come down in time for her brace to be fitted next year.

jesterkat · 03/08/2016 23:24

Good oh! Sure it will all go absolutely fine.
On a similar note to invoicing the fairy, I have had to write an iou for a tooth to the tooth fairy in lieu of a tooth which disappeared between being given to the patient and her arriving home. Resulting in v distraught 8 yr old, the note did the trick! Child never forgot and still reminds me when she brings her own children for checkups. Yes I'm that old!

iamdivergent · 08/08/2016 17:15

Tooth out. Can't believe how easy it was! Dentist said it was being held in by the gum.as her adult tooth was visible once he removed the baby one. She did so well, and I didn't faint - bonus Smile
