would I get flamed if I whisper a quiet "thank you" to MN?

I'll find out....

We have a new neighbour (next door but one, but 60's-build terrace, so you can literally hear your neighbours (from houses down the street) changing their minds!

New neighbour doing building work. Understandable. Noisy and annoying, but we remind ourselves it's only in the short term (shame DD not getting to catch up on sleep, which is so important, during summer hols because they're using noisy equipment from 7:30am, but that's what happens when you renovate). At 8:30 we commented to each other that they're working late, and wondered when it would stop.

At 9:40 DD called out she could still hear the hammering from her bedroom. So I told DH I would go (I thought I'd be less intimidating than a man????) and went out, only pausing to put on my MN "Big Girl" pants (TM). I was completely polite, but determined to "tell it to them straight" (all as MN has trained me to be). I said "Hello, I'm Mockery from 3 doors down, and I just wanted to let you know my DD is going to bed now". They said "oh, our child is too!". So I said "will you be doing much more hammering tonight?". They said "it's really nice to meet you, Mockery" and hammers went silent instantly.

Thank you, MN for giving me the confidence to confront, and the tools to do it assertively but politely. (I will, of course, be LTB and going NC and reporting to the school as well. And buying a penguin bollard. And stopping the cheque). But, honestly, it went REALLY well, and I was shaking inside, so thank you! Not even a head tilt or death stare required!

It's a shame my slob-out costume for the eventing consists of a raggedy old jumper I brought in 1994 (no exaggeration), and has more gaps than cotton left on it. Plus, a new exciting addition of daughter's hair dye wiped down the front - a glorious shade of magenta. They def saw all my back and at least one nipple. Heigh ho! (should have listened when DH suggested I don't wear it outside the house, but it's so comfortable!) (no threads I have seen covers this, so MN blameless - the costume failure was mine alone!)

Sorry to resurrect, but wanted to explain myself.

Only one nipple, Ravioli, and it was covered by a t-shirt, but still more prominent than I'd have wanted it to be when trying to make a point assertively.

I thought I might get flamed, SumThucker because I knew this wasn't an AIBU, but it's because I've spent so much time on here that I got the tools to deal with a situation effectively. And I did, and I wanted to thank people for that. Sorry you found it cringe, Amelie10

Because I'm someone who's gobby and loud and has lots to say, and I think I can write really quite well, and in my day job, I dispense advice like confetti, but I'm actually really, really shit at "naming" a problem in an effective and polite way, and stating what I want to happen and getting that result. And last night (nipples akimbo or whatever) I DID do that, it and was mostly thanks to channelling what I'd read on here. I get that it sounded like an obvious thing, but - trust me - I've got "obvious" things very, very wrong before (and probably will again!)

Thank you to everyone who "got" that and responded accordingly. Yay! Go me! Judgey pants can be surprisingly comfortable!

p.s. ArmySal, not sure MN has actually "taught" me this, but if getting your baps out works......

Good on you Op

I'm working up the courage to kindly ask my new and also renovating neighbours to stfu. Hopefully I'll take a lead out of your book, minus the tattie bojangles.

Mmm, your blogger posting style reminds me of another poster.

And? We're not playing snap.
