To think I shouldn't have to keep complaining about this?

This is the 4th time I've rang Royal Mail for the exact same complaint and it's been two different houses although not sure how many different postmen.

They keep opening windows and doors to put my parcels inside if I don't answer Shock The most recent one I nipped out and left my windows on the latch but the door locked, I was due a Glossybox so it was obvious to the postman what it was (not important) and I always collect them from the delivery office after a missed delivery. When I came home it was on my sofa (under the latched window).

I have a big dog and 4 house cats who fortunately did not attack him or escape.

Every time I complain they agree it's out of order and say they will pass the complaint on but clearly no-one is listening Angry

My mum's postman does this but only because she's disabled and he knows she can't get to the door easily. It's out of order for them to do it without being asked though.

Lock your doors and windows. If the postman can gain access then so might a burglar.

I agree he shouldn't be doing it, but if you've complained and the behavior has continued, locking your doors and windows seems to be the obvious solution.

Yes another confused why windows and doors are being left unlocked? Have you spoken to your actual post man abut it rather than someone at sorting office? I'm sure they are trying to be helpful and if you let them know you don't want them too will probably stop!

Our Windows aren't operable from outside, even unlocked. We usually keep the front door locked as well.

You are leaving your house very vulnerable to being burgled. Are you always this trusting?

Lock up like everyone else does.

You 'nipped out' when you were expecting a delivery. Nevertheless, the box was delivered.

Not sure what your complaint is ...

If you leave windows unlocked don't be surprised if you get burgled - speaking from experience!

You do realise your house insurance will be invalid if you go out and leave your windows and doors open and unlocked

I've complained twice about an issue and it has got better after - receiving the neighbour's post and having to take it round and post in the right door. A new post man = it starts again. With parcels it may be more likely the deliveries are done by different people who haven't got the message.

I've twice run after the postman after getting next door's mail, but often they are long gone by the time I realise so no chance to speak in person. Suspect OP has similar.

It's really common to leave things unlocked for a short while here. I live very rurally in a small, trusting farming-style town and i didn't leave the door unlocked on purpose and that happened last year.

I don't see how no-one thinks it's inappropriate for a postman to enter the property when they've deducued no-one is home Shock

I'm bothered because if my dog bit him then my dog would be to blame Sad How can I speak to the postman if im not there when it happens? The delivery was generally expected but I'm not sitting at home for 2 days straight for a Glossybox, it's not like a courier where you get given a time.

I rang the office to make a formal complaint because to me it's absolutely disgraceful. Even if I had forgot to lock up doesn't give anyone the right to enter Confused

I'm sure the postman thinks he's being helpful. If it's the sort of place you leave your windows open then it's not so unimaginable that they'd pop it inside for you. Perhaps leave a small note on your door if you're expecting a delivery or add it to the delivery instructions when ordering.

Tell the postman directly. I've told mine to put parcels in an open window or on the back doorstep as its a total PITA for me to get to the sorting office, with its antiquated opening hours. He probably thinks he's doing you a favour.

YABU for wasting money on glossyboxes. But really this seems such a non-issue. The time you've spent ringing up to complain you could have spent more productively locking the offending door or window.

No one has the right to enter but you are still giving them the means to do so.
The postman thinks he's doing you a favour by saving you a trip to the sorting office (and him having to return the parcel there) and by having an easily accessible window/door he can pop the parcel though he is presuming you are OK with it too.
Leave a note on the door in the future if you're not willing to secure your property.

If you live rural then the postman probably thinks he is doing you a favour by leaving you parcel rather than you having to go and collect it.

I'd be grateful if the postman had the common sense to pop my parcel through an open window if I was out. I'm not sure how he 'entered' your house though by putting it through the window.

I work from home, most of the pasties know this and know I work on the second floor and it takes me a minute or do to run down two flights of stairs. I don't look the door when in as mum sometimes calls and when I am on a work call comes straight in and ours the kettle on.

I have one postie who will not wait for me to RUN down two flights of stairs and just knocks once, opens the front door and puts the parcel in the house, it really pisses me off.

Still it's better than the one that used to have a week down the side of my garage every day until next door caught him in the act.

I have pleaded with Royal Mail to leave packages in a safe place if I'm out and they say it's against their rules. I've even offered to sign a disclaimer should anything go missing.....I live many miles from the collection place and it shuts at 2pm, hence not being able to get parcels in the week. Then having to take the precious time to drive there on a Saturday morning. I live in a very rural and safe private lane, it's very unlikely someone would bother to come and hunt down an ebay purchase of a few quid!
I'd be thrilled if Royal Mail would break their rules for me too
