a huge thread has been deleted today due to consensus at mnhq the poster had been previously banned, how does mn work out these things when a lot of us lovely peeps get pulled in ? why on earth do trolls do what they do and what do they get out of it, sorry being a bit naive i guess.

OP posts:

Do you think I can't see other posts or something? I'm reporting a couple of these comments.

Cutecat78 · 25/07/2016 17:54

If people didn't get flamed so horribly on here they wouldn't name change as often....

Blatant troll posts like a recent one on this thread wind me up.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2016 18:24

If people used the correct topics it would be better. Somehow everything gets posted in AIBU which I consider a joke topic TBH and troll central.

If I had a school problem I would use the Education section, for advice.

Everybody posts in AIBU 'for traffic' then gets loads of dodgy/snarky/weird replies instead of a few decent helpful ones in the right topic.

Why aren't we allowed? I was thinking we could write Trip Trap if we suspect 😁 that'll just wind everyone up tho so I'm just not commenting when I think things get a bit too far fetched. I think shouting troll would at least give other posters a heads up so as to protect themselves/feelings?

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2016 19:18

Trollhunting is against talk guidelines and if it's reported will be deleted.. Some people think Trollhunting is worse than trolling- weirdly. Confused

Although there's not much hunting required these days. More spotting. And reporting.

PeppaPigTastesLikeBacon · 25/07/2016 19:19

Just seen another one I commented on has been pulled because of a PBP. It was a bit far fetched but I still didn't think troll!

I'm wondering if another thread i commented on is a troll. I'm going to search for it

NeedACleverNN · 25/07/2016 19:19

The only acceptable troll Grin

why do some people troll and how does mnhq weed them out ?
MyMurphy · 25/07/2016 19:22

So am a bit confused, is troll hunting when you say someone is a troll? So why can't we do that (out of interest, I have no idea how mums net works really!)

MyMurphy · 25/07/2016 19:23

Really hope wedding dress one was real though!

ilovesooty · 25/07/2016 19:24

If people didn't get flamed so horribly on here they wouldn't name change as often

If people need to name change to post goady bollocks so that they can go back to their normal user name afterwards I'd question their motivation in posting.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2016 19:32

MyMurphy it isn't allowed because very occasionally it isn't a troll and once someone says something like 'are you sure this happened OP?' then everyone else starts to doubt and the thread descends into chaos. Plus there's a risk of upsetting a poster who definitely isn't a troll and does have some sort of unbelievable scenario going on.

Trollhunting can be anything from 'i don't believe a word of it OP you have made this up' to 'OP I believe you are a big fat troll' etc

Cutecat78 · 25/07/2016 19:36

I don't mean goady bollocks - I mean when you get jumped on.

That's the only time I name change.

callherwillow · 25/07/2016 20:01

Some people are proud of never having name changed. Others are more pragmatic.

mrgrouper · 25/07/2016 20:09

I get accused of being a troll and I am genuinely not one. I get annoyed when people say my posting style is odd, when they know I have ASD, because I do come across as odd and cannot help that. However I am 100% genuine.

Sparklingbrook · 25/07/2016 20:09

Some people have never had any need to namechange.

I know SB, but it takes no imagination to understand why people do, does it? :)

callherwillow · 25/07/2016 20:13

Quite Navy

mrgrouper · 25/07/2016 20:16

I have never namechanged, but I would if it was a particularly sensitive topic and it was very important my RL identity did not come out.

Cutecat78 · 25/07/2016 20:19

Or when people have trawled back through my threads and bought up stuff from other threads.

Actually I had a 3 month break from MN then.

That felt like I was being bullied a bit.
