By declaring a State of Emergency, Erdogan has basically written himself a mandate to do pretty much anything, with no comeback. If there is any truth in the rumours that he knew about the coup and allowed it to go ahead in order to get rid of his enemies then this is where it all starts to go bad.

This feels wrong for reasons I cant really articulate but, to quote Star Wars, I have a bad feeling about this.

I am finding the world very hard to understand at the moment and with Trump stating he may back out of the automatic protection element of Nato today (Mr Trump said the US would only come to the aid of allies if they have "fulfilled their obligations to us"), it just seems to be coming a more frightening place every day.

Sorry, I realised it was a bit of a jibe, and TM did row back on her intention. I hope she realised why it was drawn up and which Government was a key mover in its drawing up.

I am actually much more worried about the situation in Turkey than the fallout from Brexit.

Long term it might actually be even worse than Brexit, I'll agree with that.

And I do think Brexit is a self inflicted disaster.

NATO will have some interesting decisions to make about Turkey in the not too distant future.
