Wibu to leave a desk fan on whilst I'm out?

Just that really.

I have pets, one of which is elderly and feels the heat. Google hasn't thrown up any issues with leaving a fan on except for in the case of wiring issues which we don't have (hopefully).

Sorry for being so boring but would like to get back to work without worrying all afternoon.

I don't think dogs sweat, which is part of the reason fans work on people (helping evaporation). Cold water in a bowl?

I work with fire fighters though and they have me paranoid about electrical things.

Oh, well, maybe I'll try it for an hour and nip back again. I've hosed her off with cold water and she's plonked in front of it.

Awwww. I have a mental image now.

Can you knock up some frozen treat? I used to make our old border collie chicken gravy ice lollies. He loved them. Actually I think you can buy them in pets at home or some other pet shop chain.

I got the idea from watching a zoo documentary.

I left the fan on whilst I was out this morning - for our hamster :)

I leave the fan on for our old dog. She pathetically goes and stands beside it gazing at it when it's off, then looks at me. She lies streaked out in front of it for hours, with her belly turned towards it. Mind you, she does the same gazing at the radiator thing in the winter.

Have left mine on today for my two cats - preferable to leaving a window open, I suppose?

Put cold water and ice in a hot water bottle and pop it in their bed/where they lie.

I'm paranoid about leaving any electrics on too. Don't even trust the end of a wash.

Ddog is lying nose first pointing at the fan, ears flapping. He looks soooo happy. I know I should worry more about wiring...

My ferrets don't sweat I've got bottles of frozen water and wet towels in their cage until dh can let them out so they can find their own cool place. They are so young I worry so much about them in this heat. If a fan worked I'd leave it on for them.

May or may not have bought some tuna in spring water to give her the water from with some ice cubes.

I actually have fans in the stables for my horses in this weather. I wouldn't leave them when I'm out though, unless someone else is in to check. The fan we have in the bedroom (same as a desk fan but on a stand) sticks occasionally and my mechanic husband said the motor could get hot and set on fire if you left it like that, so I'm paranoid about leaving one on unattended. Personally I'd leave the dog damp and shut the curtains all day if I was going out. You can also buy cooler rugs and mats for them to lie on, that might be an option.

Judging by the distant rumblings I think this heat might be about to clear anyway. Thanks for the suggestions though, I'll definitely try the cold water bottle idea and the frozen gravy next time we get some summer :)
