taxi driver - no brake lights!

Dropping DS off at nursery this morning. Taxi in front. Stops and sits in the road. Only driver side brake light working and 1 of the small lights on the high level brake. No indicator to say he was pulling over. He gradually starts to drive again, then slows right down, indicates and turns off. DH wanted to beep him and shout at him for stopping randomly and also to tell him about his brakes. He indicated and turned off. Would you call the taxi firm or 101? Extremely dangerous as he was travelling at normal speed (say 30) then stopped almost immediately with very little warning and practically no brake lights.

Do you really need to ask this?? Call the taxi firm. There is every possibility they don't even know about it and will get it fixed ASAP.

There's also every possibility that they won't and don't care too....

It's either, or both, the Police, and/or the Taxi firm.

It's the Drivers responsibility to make sure that the Car is roadworthy, otherwise he can lose his taxi licence.

I have called the firm. He didn't really seem to give a shit. "Oh I'll call him in to the office. He wasn't in that area though"

Listen these things happen. I regularly check my lights. A couple of years ago i checked my lights on a sunday and went to work on the monday. A van driver started beeping and shouting at me that I had no brake lights. Checked and sure enough i didn't. The little button under your brake lights that should engage when you press the peddle was jammed so the lights weren't being activated.

You should be driving with sufficient distance and attention to allow for these things on the road.

Tree I know they do. But to have a passenger brake light out and almost all of the high level lights (say 6 in a cluster with 1 working) out too is a bit more than they've gone overnight....

Call the taxi firm. I always tell someone if i see lights not working as i hope someone tell me as you dont always know. Everyone i told be grateful. I start with id be glad if someone told me but do you know one of your lights has failed.

Total overreaction. Your title says no brake lights, then you clearly state that it had some brake lights. Frankly, calling the police because someone has one brake light out is a complete waste of their time. The taxi co are now aware and should get it sorted.

I hope they do see to it and it doesnt cause an accident. I thought the taxi firm, like normal drivers, would need to ensure their taxis are safe etc.
