Driving lessons and air con aibu?

I'm doing a crash course this week of 3 hours a day today was day 2. I'm 34 weeks pregnant and have been really feeling the heat by the time my lesson was over today I had drank 2 bottles of water and my clothes where soaked with sweat yesterday wasn't as warm but similar. I asked to have air con on for a while and the instructor said no he doesn't use it, at this point I was dripping with sweat as we were doing through maneuvers so no breeze coming in. Both days I've had to cut the lesson short (on his suggestion) by an hour as I was starting to feel ill he has refunded me the hour though.

Aibu to expect he puts the air con on for a while? I know it uses fuel but I'm finding it so difficult to relax and concentrate when I'm feeling over heated and sitting in wet clothes. I have my test at the weekend which I really need to be in the best position possible to pass for personal reasons I'm worried between the heat, the discomfort and cutting lessons short this will not happen.

Makes bugger all difference to fuel economy on modern cars. Mines never switched off summer or winter.

I'd be finding a new instructor.

To be fair, you did say it was a waste of time Grin

But totally fair if you don't like it. I can bear being in a car without it

Do not bloody pay him extra, whatever you do!

Interestingly I was listening to a radio programme and an AC 'expert' said the only reason you need a car re gassed is because thereis a slow leak in the system somewhere. We've had our car ten years never needed it re gassing, so makes sense.

Anyway, my instructor used to tell me it was up to me how I wanted the car as I was driving. No way would I have had a lesson yesterday without AC ,it was hellish let alone if you're pregnant!

Tell him firmly and calmly today that it will be on today.

If the service is advertised on their website you should be receiving it.

Thanks everyone. His car is only a few weeks old, he seemed pretty uncomfortable too not sure if that's why he was happy to cut short. Part of me thinks hes agreed to an intense week thinking of the money then changed his mind, its a small company which he owns hes in his 60's and I get the impression that he doesn't do much instructing these days.

Its heavy rain today so if it gets hot I will tell him I need it on for a while at least. I can not consentrate when I'm so hot.

Pregnant or not, who wouldn't use air con in this weather? Why suffer when you don't have to even if it does cost a tiny bit extra.

I bet he's one of those who won't put the heating on at home or has it ridiculously cold so you can see your breath to prove some sort of competitive martyrism point.

Isn't using the car's functions part of the driving test now? And as well as keeping the car cool, air con is good for stopping the car steaming up, which it would do full of sweaty bodies in the rain when it is warm/humid.

Good points Barbara.

Re the regassing. If you never use the air con the rubber perishes and you get a leak. I have had to have the air con regassed in a couple of different cars because I didn't use the air con enough.

Two different car manufacturers have said the same so it must be true.

Driving in heat in rain makes the windows steam up and the only effective way to deal with it is to switch the air con on.

The instructor is being a dick.
