Not sure but I think it is the weather being unreasonable.

I am laying naked. On top of my bed. Quilts has been banished to the floor.
Window is on vent I hate being in a bungalow

My head is pounding from increased atmospheric pressure.

I'm hot. I'm tired. I'm grumpy.
I can't sleep.

I'm up having been banished from the bedroom due to my coughing. I'm knackered but fear I might melt/start coughing if I lie back down. Rubbish...

Put some ice blocks in the freezer and cool your bed before you get in! I keep mine there all night too - it helps, along with the fan, shut curtains all day and open windows!!! You can always put ice or a bottle of ice in a bowl in front of a fan for old school air conditioning!!!

Morning all fellow heat sufferers.

Apparently bit will be even hotter today

Get a portable a/c unit. One of the best things I've ever bought. Don't need it often, but for those few baking hot nights it worth its weight in gold. Had to pull the duvet over me last night!

Gatekeeper · 19/07/2016 09:20

Mollypollywolly....make sure your daughters curtains are kept closed during the day. Will be doing this with my children's today

Fill a hot water bottle with ice water and take it to bed. Used to do this when I lived in a hot country, with no air conditioning. Or move to Scotland, no probs with hot nights here!

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 19/07/2016 12:13

Can't afford an air con Sad

But cold water bottle is coming to bed tonight

Moving to Scotland is second on the list of options.

Where is nice?.

I need a good nursery for toddler.
Decent senior school for ds.

Nice big house.

Coastal.

Happy to drive to school/nursery /coast.

Quiet area. Not a city lover.

Cold and rain is fine.

I'm in Scotland and my bedroom was 23 degrees last night, 28degrees in my back garden just now so not always cold. Usually I'd love it but suffering carrying this space heater around on my front. Hands and feet are like balloons.

Am I the only Australian cackling at this thread?

There were a few days last summer when it got to 46 degrees Celsius here Grin

I think the relatively high humidity (especially in Scotland) can make it feel a lot hotter. 18 degrees here can feel warm but if it was only 18 in Spain I'd think it felt cool.

Usually I'd be loving this heat, disappointed I just can't enjoy it just now.

Katedotness1963 · 19/07/2016 14:26

I fill the hot water bottle with cold water too. We have a standing fan at the foot of the bed. I'm seriously thinking of looking into getting a cooling gel pad we had for the dog years ago when we lived in Italy, he loved it in the summer...

HypodeemicNerdle · 19/07/2016 14:33

Cold water bottle is a fucking genius idea

I've just given up trying to sleep after a night shift. Going to be bloody knackered later but it's too hot and light to sleep

MrsTerryPratchett · 19/07/2016 14:37

Get a sarong or similar, wet it. Wring it out well and sleep under it. Preferably with a fan blowing. It's instant air conditioning.

Admittedly I was just using it in 36 degrees and 50% humidity but it will work just as well for 27 Grin

But here's the thing, Smuggy McSmuggerson. I'm going to bet you have proper A/C pretty much everywhere you go, and probably access to an outdoor pool. I'm from the southern part of the USA, where summer is HOT and so muggy some days that the government warns the elderly and asthmatic to stay inside. Yet I still find days like this in the UK very hard, simply because there's no escaping it. At home this would be a lovely cool late spring day. The kids and grownups would spend the day in the pool or indoors, and at night we would sleep easily in cool comfort. Here we have to make do with fans and an inflatable paddling pool in the garden. Even a lot of stores and offices don't have A/C. We went out to dinner last night and the restaurant was a sauna.

If it makes you feel good to be condescending, cackle on, but at least compare apples to apples.

dailymaillazyjournos · 19/07/2016 15:25

Im going to dampen a sheet, fold it and put it in freezer. Will uncrackable it at bed time... Tea towels will get same treatment to drape round body parts till bedtime. Good luck everyone..

minipie · 19/07/2016 15:33

Shower before bed, go to bed with wet hair wearing nothing.

If you wake up and are too hot, repeat.

minipie · 19/07/2016 15:33

Cool shower obv.
