"Polite Notice"

I'm currently staying at the Camping and Caravan Club campsite at Keswick.

Every notice appears to be titled "Polite Notice".

AIBU in wanting to rip them all down for ridiculousness.

The C&CC is a professional business and we are all paying customers of it.... As such they shouldn't have to tell us it's a polite notice - it should just BE a polite notice....

Does it look like this Polite Notice?

"Polite Notice"

Does it really matter if there is a (badly or otherwise) written sign? I mean, honestly? What it means is that enough people don't know how to behave, so a sign has to be written for their benefit. Someone, somewhere, has probably tried to make it a bit more noticeable that the usual 'these are the rules for you manky inconsiderate fuckers please adhere to them' by coming up with a poem. So what?

A lot of the horse riders where I live wear jackets that are intended to look like Police jackets (black and white checks round the edges and some yellow high vis bits) that say Polite Notice please pass wide and slow or some such because obviously a lot of people would squeeze past them at 50 mph if the riders weren't trying to fool people into thinking they were mounted police officers.

SirChenjin · 16/07/2016 16:51

Sounds about right. My friends and my sister all have horses - you wouldn't believe the number of drivers who think it's hilarious to drive past them at speed.

OlennasWimple · 16/07/2016 16:58

"Polite Notice" = "Passive Aggressive Notice"

SirChenjin · 16/07/2016 17:00

Only of you are determined to take it that way.

SirChenjin · 16/07/2016 17:00

If you

JudyCoolibar · 16/07/2016 17:16

I agree it seems to stem from those signs where people want to con you into thinking it's a police notice, and that usage seems to have been lost sight of. Either a notice is polite or it isn't - there's no need whatsoever to describe it.

I hope you called 101??"
To log it you mean?

BurnTheBlackSuit · 16/07/2016 17:29

Thinking about it, we do a lot of pointless wording in this country...

"Would you like a nice cup of tea?"

Doobigetta · 16/07/2016 17:42

Oh my god, I HATE "gentle reminders" so much! I'm glad I'm not the only one they tempt to do the exact opposite of the request. It's the condescending tone of it. If I'm being extra careful not to come across like a twat, I put "sorry to be a pain but would you mind/could you possibly..." I hope that doesn't wind people up.

love the 'rude notice'....

the standard one is 'unaccompanied children will be given an espresso and a free puppy'
