Plant - I forgot to water my colleagues plant while she was on leave.

This is a blatent not AIBU. Apologies.

I brought it home and thought it might "come back to life".

It hasn't

She asked as soon as she got back where it was - she's quite attached to it.

ARGH please identify it so I can replace it?!

You could say you brought it home (to repot) but last night, your cat/dog/hamster peed on it and unfortunately killed it....possibly could happen!! x

Honesty is always the best policy. Get her a voucher from a garden centre and fess up. Too stressful these shenanigans. What's she gonna do?

OP you need to burst into tears, and tell her you have some really bad news that you need to urgently tell her because you can't go on "living a lie." Pause occasionally, to close your eyes and grimace as if you are about to do a really big poo. Just as you are about to tell her, stop and do a really annoying whine and snort back a few snotty tears. She will end up getting so panicked (and fed up of your god-awful dramatic facial expressions), that when you finally 'fess up, she will hopefully reply with - "Is that it? Jesus Christ I thought someone had died!!"

Then give her a big hug and wipe your snotty nose over her cardi. Problem solved. You're welcome .
