to want a light grey sofa with young children?

We are looking at new covers for our sofa and I have my eye on a cotton/linen light grey cover. It is block colour - ie not flecked. We will cover arms with rugs but am I mad or should I go for a dark grey which I don't like as much but would hide stains a bit more?

Thanks Clocomomo - I saw your fabric today in store today and it is even lighter than the one I am looking at! Thanks for explaining your experience with it - a huge help! If most things come up with washing/drycleaning think we'll be ok. Think I'm going to go for light grey. We are very careful and children know they cannot eat on it. will cover a bit at moment with 1 year old until she is a bit older.

Can you believe they didn't tell me about the sensitivity of velvet even though I went in with children and was asking specifically about sticky fingers!! and nothing about Guardsman either. Had I known, I never would have chosen velvet! You can't fix any damage. As you say, any other fabric will seem like a breeze!!!

Daac - did DS et on it? was it covered up? sorry to hear it is ruined. We have had to be uttererly paranoid with velvet as water can ruin it - that i think i will continue to be a bit paranoid about any new fabric!!
