Smoking in a SMOKING AREA

OK, out for lovely lunch with a friend yesterday. Sitting in a beer garden in a SMOKING area (ash tray thingy on Wall, ashtrays on tables)
My friend & I sitting at a table with no one else nearby enjoying our lunch.
During which time 2 other women come and sit at the table next to us.
Others waiting for their food, we finish ours & I light up. I'm sitting away from them, holding my fag in opposite hand to them, blowing smoke in the opposite direction. No children around, no food, no other people.
Hear them muttering something about smoking and tutting.
I turn and ask them if it's bothering them - blank looks from them. Me 'is this bothering you? Oh, I'll go and stand over there then shall I?' no response from them except a nervous laugh type thing.
I go and finish my fag a few feet further away & go carry on chatting to my friend.
Friend later says, oh I wouldn't have even acknowledged them.
Some people piss me right off.
Not like they were eating or anything.
Wish I would have said something like 'probably best not to sit in a SMOKING AREA if you don't like fucking smoking that much eh?' but maybe that might have been a bit too aggressive Shock
Why do some people have to be so bloody irritating? Next time maybe I'll have a cigar instead.
The more I think about it the more wound up I get. Can't stand muttering / tutting. If you have something to say why not just fucking say it!!!!!

I'm a non smoker & I am embarrassed by some fellow non smokers, with their pathetic, passive aggressive hand wafting & spluttering. I'd have told them to fuck off

No, I don't think so. :)

Smoking disgusts me. However if I were stupid enough to sit in the SMOKING area, I can expect to sniff a bit of smoke. Given that I get to sit toasty toasty warm for 10 months of the year in a smoke free environment and the smokers have to go outside to spark up their cancer sticks, I know who gets the better end of the bargain.

How's about the smokers have to give up the smoking area if the temperature gets up above 20oC but they can smoke inside when it falls below 5 oC?

The pub that I used to work in had one side for smokers and the other side for non-smokers in the beer garden. It did work to a degree.

Maybe more pubs should have this in the beer garden? It might stop people from moaning about smoking next to them.

I think the OPs point was that she was in the bit designated for smokers.

Cellardoor23 · 23/09/2016 17:59

Ah ok. I don't understand why someone would sit in that section and then moan about someone smoking? Bizarre.

Yeah. I don't have a problem with smoking outside anyway. I quite like the aroma.

Sounds like you were unnecessarily passive aggressive , why not just say to them politely that it was a smoking area and there were other area which were smoke free. So yes, YABU.
