Yes I know, stepford wifey thread of the day but I am so fed up with shit pastry brushes and I have bought several and they're all shit.

The silicone ones are annoying and flap about and don't work very well. But any other kind I buy sheds hairs on the food – surely that's a basic no-no in a pastry brush! (And I NEVER say "no-no", boak)

I'm not doing some kind of bake-off fantasy creations here, just everyday making the odd pie, bread buns etc.

So recommend me your fantastic pastry brush please MNers, I will cough for the right one that will last, work and not cover my pastry in disgusting hairs Angry

room I think we have something very like that kicking around already, I'll see if I can find one that hasn't been used for poster paint yet.

+ZansForCans* I have looked but there is no make on mine. It has a wooden handle and bristles. One thing I do know is that I wouldn't have paid much for it. Just a thought - I have never put it in the dishwasher or boiling water. This is because you can loosen hairs from the ferrule as they are glued in. I have painted as a hobby for years and always treated brushes with great care as artist paint brushes are really expensive. So I suppose I have treated the pastry brush in much the same way. That is wash in washing up liquid, rinse well, shake to reform shape and left to dry naturally. Just a thought.

I'm very happy to see this thread as I put my old pastry brush in the bin yesterday - it shed bristles all over my sausage rolls Angry

Thank you OP, I can now use the advice on this thread to replace it Grin
