How many schools did you go and visit? Before deciding?

Just curious?

There was no point in looking at any primary schools. You don't get a choice, it's a preference.

We are in an area where every school is hugely over subscribed and it's just luck if you get any of your choices. I didn't want to think the DC were missing out on a better school when there was nothing I could do to get them into it.

We were lucky and got our nearest school. Friends 50 metres further away got none of their preferences and we're offered a place at a failing school miles away.

Why build your hopes up?

Just the 3 that were possibilities - went with our catchment one. Was pretty sure that would be the one but the visits were useful.

Work out which schools are actual possibilities based on previous entries though - no point getting attached to one you have no hope of getting in to.

1 for primary, which thankfully we got.

Starting to think about secondaries for 9 year old DS. There will only be 2 or 3 options, all within 3 miles of home.

3 state and 1 independent. But ds had a statement due to cerebral palsy so needed to see how that would work and everything from width of doors, to ramps and steps, as well as parking, and transport to school.

We did look at ethos, as well as class size but the buildings matter!

1 for infant
2 for juniors
2 for secondary.
