What the hell is wrong with DH's foot? It doesn't hurt, but is it an A&E thing?

DH dropped his phone on his foot, so it wasn't particularly heavy as such. What is the lump? He says it isn't particularly painful, so not sure if it's something we leave to go down or send to A&E? No clinics here

Tbh I'd probably ring 101 rather then ask MN.
Looks nasty.

isitactually the method of injury is totally different in your mum's case though. If the OP had posted that picture after her DH had fallen or tripped I'd be suggesting an X-ray. Given that he just dropped a mobile phone on his foot and no other trauma I think a fracture is very unlikely.

welshweasel · 10/07/2016 18:25

It's a haematoma. It will get better in its own but can take a few weeks to go completely. I'd only seek medical attention if he can't walk on it or if he develops any sign of infection (hot, red skin or increasing pain).

"Diabetic? I'm not sure... But isn't that diagnosed when you're young?"
Type 1, probably, but Type 2 (which used to be known as "adult onset diabetes" I think) can develop at any age although more and more younger people are developing it due to crap diets/lifestyle choices. It's more prevalent in overweight people but that's not to say slim people aren't at risk if their lifesyles are poor.

He's not on any blood thinners is he?

Doinmummy · 10/07/2016 18:29

If someone turns up for an X-ray having dropped a phone on their foot they get this face Hmm Grin

goldenlilliesdaffodillies · 10/07/2016 19:08

Smother it in arnica cream and ice packs. Go to the GP if it gets worse.

My dmum dropped a tablet on her foot and broke it the foot not the tablet. So it can happen. We've since discovered she has osteoporosis though so probably why it happened so easily.

Looks painful op, get him to ice it and keep it elevated. I think GP in the morning is probably your best bet.

kelda · 12/07/2016 14:45

How is his foot now?

Toxicity · 12/07/2016 15:49

Definitely go to GP if he is worried or pain starts but please don't go to A&E in the first instance, there are other places you can go first.

chocolatecakemakesmefat · 12/07/2016 15:51

Umm that actually looks like a blood clot , I'd be getting on the phone to your GP or A&E is it hot to touch at all?

lougle · 12/07/2016 16:05

"Umm that actually looks like a blood clot"

Haematoma is the medical term for blood collection/clot. It's normal for blood to clot when it collects under the skin and it does no harm - it's what a bruise is. It will break down over time, which is why a bruise turns blue then green/yellow/brown.
