To think that we can drive the car this weekend when the MOT is due at the end of the month?

DP suggested a day out on Saturday. I said yes, let's drive half an hour to countryside then go for a walk.

Dp now says we shouldn't do "long distances" because the car is 10 years old and due MOT at end of July (although with no issues so far, very reliable!)

I think he is ridiculous because, a, 30 mins each way isn't a long distance and b, we have almost a month to go

(C is that he should bloody put the car in for MOT if he feels that strongly about it but that's a whole other issue!)

Who is being unreasonable please and would you still drive it?

sounds to me like he is trying to get out of the plan! Surely noone would really not go to something they wanted to go to because an MOT was 4 weeks off? Really?

Effendi · 08/07/2016 19:26

Where I live, MOT's are every two years!

Queenbean · 08/07/2016 19:41

Actually it was all crossed wires in the end, the MOT was actually due on 4th July not 24th July as I thought! Hence him not wanting to drive it until the mot has been sorted.

Turns out he was actually right after all! And the "ok yeah" message later was relating to something else. The perils of messaging instead of just talking!

Amy if you drive without a valid MOT you're also driving without valid insurance and your car could be seized. Good job you weren't stopped, and the garage reminder nagging thing is something we've also used before our village garage closed due to retirement.

Insurance companies have to behave in a fair manner. So what matters is your car is roadworthy whether it had the piece of paper or not. MOT is not even included in anpr. The automatic insurance thing is an urban myth.

OP if the car has something wrong then get it fixed, an unroadworthy car should not be driven ever whether it has an MOT or not. If the car is fine he's being ridiculous, 10 isn't old for a modern car

Not true (unless you're insured with the shittiest of shitty insurers).

As I pointed out upthread, a policy which ceased on the expiration of your MoT would be illegal anyway, as it would not comply with the requirements of the Road Traffic Act.

That makes much more sense OP!
