Canterbury New Zealand trousers ripped after only 3 months

3 months ago I bought a pair of Canterbury Stadium trousers for my 9 year old son to play rugby/football in as I had been told that they were very hard wearing, (they pride themselves on this on their website). My son only wears them for a couple of hours a week.
I am so not happy that they have ripped at the knees. The fabric is not hard wearing at all. Canterbury are refusing to admit that the trousers are not fit for purpose. Has any one else had this problem? Canterbury are saying that they have never had any complaints before and that it is my son's fault.

I don't think you have any consumer rights after 3 months really do you? Mind you, 3 months worth of wear would be quite good for my 10 year old Ds. Sigh.

There are not hard wearing enough for sports. Mine wear them on weekend as smarter trackies when we go out.

Not much survives rugby tbh. Mine wear thermal leggings under their rugby shorts with thermal top

They might be hard-wearing as trackie bottoms but they are not proper rugby wear. Anyway, at 9 years old presumably he will already have grown out of them by the time the rugby/football season starts again?

he wore them at the week end to play a bit of rugby/football with his friends. I would have thought that at £40 they would last longer than Asda's track suit bottoms. On their website they are under the 'training' tab. To me that means you should be able to play in them and that they are not just a fashion piece of clothing.

'Training' doesn't sound to me like including rough contact sports.

You paid £40 for them?! You were robbed. Googling shows these available for about £15 up - unless you are talking about something very different to what I understand by Canterbury Stadium pants.

Most likely meant to be worn to warm up before the game. Then whipped off for the actual play. Not much survives a game of rugby.

The zippers up the side are there so you can whip them off whilst still wearing your boots. I don't think many trousers would stand up to weekly rugby playing for any length of time tbh.
