I've recently given up smoking and I'm at that point where, if you stand still too long, I'll eat you.

I'm used to not really having to worry about weight, but I'm now being a bit careful. Not on a diet as such, just watching what I eat and I've started cycling into work

It feels like everyone I work with is a huge fitness fanatic as apparently I'm doing everything wrong.

My bike is wrong (I have an ancient, old fashioned job with about 3 gears and a shopping basket), I'm wearing the wrong clothes (my jeans, a hoodie and a pair of trainers). My lunch yesterday was all wrong (a cheese and pickle sarnie and a toffee Muller light yoghurt).

It takes me about half an hour to cycle to work - this is too slow, I should be able to do it in 10 minutes, I'm not working hard enough, blah, blah, blah

They're so critical and over the top, it's really putting me off.

You're doing it wrong.

You want small chunk pickle in your sarnies and wear a floaty skirt and wrap flowers round your basket.

God nothing more boring than a diet or exercise bore! YANBU.

Ha I can relate OP, I used to cycle to work on an ancient BMX - the seat was rock hard so i had to strap a cushion to it!!

it will make it a lot easier if you invest in a better bike and some appropriate clothing. It doesn't have to be expensive. But don't bother unless you know cycling is something you're going to be doing regularly.

As for the lunch police... tell them to sod off. These are the people eating cold chicken, kale and sweet potato and pretending they love it when all they really want is a footlong sub with everything in it!

I'm in Switzerland, I think half the office bikes to work. Nobody wears lycra and nobody uses top of the range, carbon, 25 gear competition bike for their commute.
This would be seen like dressing up in expensive hiking clothes and boots and bringing your compass and tent just to walk your dog around the block.

Maybe repeating 'I'm cucling for transport, not fitness' and 'I'm eating to live, not to get the perfect balance of macronutrients' will help?

ReallyNoEyeDeer that video is brilliant! Really made me laugh. And that's my exercise for today Grin

I don't cycle (I would not live to tell the tale, I've got no spatial awareness and the car drivers here are awful!) but your cycle sounds absolutely lovely! Don't listen to them, I've also had my fill of over invested "helpful" colleagues and it's incredibly annoying but you just have to ignore them as best you can!
Well done for giving up smoking, I have been a year and a half now and it's the best thing I ever did!
