Why are you friends on FB with your work colleague?

Rule 001 of employment!

NoahVale · 05/07/2016 19:15

you are quite right queen.
i hovered over the add button for ages.

If you didn't want them to be shared, why didn't you change your settings?

MyKingdomForBrie · 05/07/2016 19:16

So you posted them on FB and colleague showed the FB post to others at work that you weren't friends with? Difficult, I normally consider anything on FB to be basically open information but then if you choose your friends carefully then you have a point.

NoahVale · 05/07/2016 19:17

no, I would have shown them today to non facebook colleagues.

OP posts:
mrsfuzzy · 05/07/2016 19:23

joy of fb, much of it about as welcome as an std Grin but can understand why op has the hump yanbu.

Queenbean · 05/07/2016 19:23

Lesson learnt, de friend all your colleagues or change your privacy settings

SalemSaberhagen · 05/07/2016 19:27

If you share them on FB you can't be annoyed.

To be fair, your colleague probably wasn't that bothered either way. As Adrian Mole's mother (I think) once said 'the only thing less interesting than looking at other people's photos, is listening to other people's dreams'.

user1467101855 · 05/07/2016 19:38

YABU. If you wanted to show them to people yourself, don't post them all over a social media site designed to share things with others.

lougle · 05/07/2016 19:38

So you aren't upset that they have seen the photos, but you wanted to do the showing? Wink

Was colleague being a busybody or just sharing your delight overenthusiastically?

NoahVale · 05/07/2016 19:39

being a busy body no doubt, she has form

OP posts:
NoahVale · 05/07/2016 19:39

but you wouldnt though would you - it is a Rule, isnt it?

Buddahbelly · 05/07/2016 19:42

Your colleague is new to facebook? or you are? sorry if i've misread.

My aunty did this though when she first joined up, she went back through my timeline (and other family members) and pressed share it having no idea what it actually meant.

AristotlesTrousers · 05/07/2016 19:42

Of course YANBU to be annoyed. What an odd thing for your colleague to do! Confused

NoahVale · 05/07/2016 19:43

she is new, but she physically showed them,
ha ha to your aunty.

That's FB for you, there are no boundaries, people take it upon themselves to overstep the mark left right and centre. We've just lost a close friend and despite there being no official Facebook announcement from the person's family, individuals took it upon themselves to post announcements, tributes, poems,, you name it, without once stepping back and realising it was not their news to share and it was shameful to see these people wallowing in someone else's grief. This resulted in a bereaved family scrambling to contact close friends and family before the grapevine broke the news. The person had been dead for two hours before the floodgates opened. I do like fbook but sometimes people need to think something through before they jump in and certain situations require some sensitivity.

NoahVale · 05/07/2016 19:58

that is awful mumofmonsters. [sad

hotdiggedy · 05/07/2016 20:04

never add work colleagues on facebook!

user1466610292 · 05/07/2016 20:23

My SIL reads everything on my fb then tells my parents about everything, and shows her all my pics etc so when I go and visit my parents and tell/show them stuff they already know 😟

She showed my parents, my holiday photos, she is so strange

ZanyMobster · 05/07/2016 20:35

mumofthemonsters - this happened when a friend of mine died last year, I was on holiday so the group of friends weren't sure when to tell me but non family members started putting it on facebook within hours so they had to contact me before I saw it.

With birth/death announcements I always think that if the person closest to the situation hasn't posted on facebook then you just shouldn't either!

I do see where you're coming from OP, one of my friends isn't on facebook said to her DH not to put any holiday pics or statuses on FB as she is pissed off when telling friends about what it's like etc that they already know as have seen everything on FB already. It does feel a bit stalkerish, especially when people who haven't liked or commented but say ooh I saw on FB that you did such and such . . .

mumofthemonsters808 · 05/07/2016 20:43

I agree Zany, but people seem unable to control themselves and want to jump in, without knowing their place.

mummyto2monkeys · 05/07/2016 20:48

I read that a Father found out his son had died as students and parents shared condolences on the school Facebook group. The poor man was distraught (son was only in teens and had been fine when father left for work that morning.

I often think that too many people relish sharing the good and bad news on Facebook. Not realising the impact on others, New parents don't get to announce the birth of their own child anymore, family members are far too share happy.
