Ds9 & Ds11's school just introduced a healthy eating policy Hmm and I'm stuck for 'acceptable' things to put in. They usually have a mix of dinners and lunches but dinners have also been stopped.

So what do your dc's take for lunch?

Usually quite boring as DD likes bland food:
Sandwiches or cold pasta salad
Little pot of strawberries or grapes
Box of raisins
Mini breadsticks and something to dip them in - usually cream cheese but sometimes hummus.

Sprintingforthefinnish · 05/07/2016 20:25

Does your school have a nut free policy? If not nuts and nut butters are fab for adding calories without adding hugely to volume.

Dillite2 · 05/07/2016 20:28

Sandwich/ wrap/ bagel with either ham or smoked salmon with cream cheese.

Cherry tomatoes, cucumber, peppers

Fruit or berries of some sort

I tried putting other things in like a pasta salad or something else, but DD won't eat them, so we just stick to what she likes.

HippyChickMama · 05/07/2016 20:30

Ds (gluten intolerant) has:
Gf roll with ham/cheese/both
Cherry tomatoes
Piece of fruit
Yoghurt
Drink

happylittlefish · 05/07/2016 20:33

Sprinting, no they don't - thanks for that idea 😊 will get some when next shopping

I'm really jealous that all these kids will eat all this fruit and veg. Mine wouldn't touch any of this ... Will eat peas ( mixed with mash and gravy and sausage) and broccoli randomly and cauliflower smothered in cheese sauce that about it... Would love them to eat cherry tomato or raspberries etc Blush

MsJamieFraser · 05/07/2016 20:34

5 homemade chicken nuggets
Pom bears
Mixed fruit
Carrot sticks
Homemade oat bar

happylittlefish · 05/07/2016 20:37

Cbigs my kids have always liked fruit & veg (as well as chocolate!!! 😂). Perhaps if you cut an array of different things into sticks with a dip they'd be more willing to try them??

They'd probably suck the dip off ( but what dip? Not houmous ! Ketchup maybe? Cheese spread? Not sounding quite as healthy now... I have always offered it to them but they're just not having it .

Troika · 05/07/2016 20:43

Sandwich (or crackers, wrap, pitta etc)+protein
Salad or veg
Fruit
Small treat eg biscuit, cake, yoghurt...

That's my basic lunchbox formula anyway

MrGrumpy01 · 05/07/2016 20:43

My middle one takes a yoghurt and a bottle of water. not much help to anyone else

He has autism and has a restricted diet, everything else comes back uneaten or has long fallen off his list of acceptable food stuffs. i do feel dreadful sending him with just a yoghurt though.

OneLongDay · 05/07/2016 20:50

My DD goes to pre school and she'll have 3 slices of bread cut up into squares of jam sandwiches. A pit of mixed fruit, a baby bell of dairylee dunker thing, 2 frubes then maybe a biscuit of some sort and then small drink either plain water or milkshake

Socksey · 05/07/2016 22:00

Sausage rolls and 2 sausages.... apples, oranges, a biscuit, crisps and a chocolate bar....
That's what he had today.... the sausage rolls and sausages are not a regular feature as it's usually ham sandwiches....
There is an order I expect the food eaten and woe betide him if the snacks are eaten and the main and fruit aren't. ... then all he gets is a sandwich (large).... he's out of the house 10 hours or more so needs to be kept topped up. ...
Breakfast is eggs and a good dinner with meat and veg and rice/pasta.

lostoldlogin2 · 05/07/2016 22:03

Tomorrow my son needs a packed lunch (usually has school dinner) as he is at summer camp. He is having a chorizo sandwich, banana, apple, juicy Milk thingy and a few mini biscuits (he will eat 2 and will give away 4 ). School dinners are 3 courses. ...usually soup or rice to start with, meat or fish with vegetables as a main, slice of baguette and fruit for dessert. (Catalan state school)

almamatters · 05/07/2016 22:06

My boy has a chicken sandwich (crap wafer thin chicken) or one day a week a Nutella sandwich and then

2 small yogurts/frube things
Harvest bar
Bit of fruit or pea pods/raw carrots
Water

At snack time he has sunflower/pumpkin seeds (I can't remember which) and milk.

The same things, every single day, he's in year 3 Confused

Sidalee7 · 05/07/2016 22:11

Pasta and pesto or cold pizza or pitta and houmous
Fruit - usually a mixture of berries in a pot
Crisps
Yoghurt
Small sweet treat - animal biscuits or popcorn

Queenbean · 05/07/2016 22:14

OneLongDay that's an awful lot of sugar and processed food!

SendARavenToRiverrun · 05/07/2016 22:20

Sandwich or wrap.. Usually ham and cucumber.
Piece of whole fruit for break, strawberries or blueberries in a tub for lunch.
Yoghurt/cheese cubes.
Crisps/choc bar.
Mini chicken Kiev things or cocktail sausages.

Occasionally I do pasta salad and add an extra pot of chopped raw veg. It's usually left though so I don't often bother! Year 3 and year six.
