Is it no longer rude to stare?

People of a certain age (50+) stare at our house and I find it really rude. We live in a building that has been 'repurposed', so I understand people might be curious. Some knock on the door and have a chat about it, which is lovely. Others just stand and stare. I was painting a window the other day, when a man walked past slowly with his dog, staring at the front garden. When he realised I had seen him, he looked quite annoyed with me and said something I couldn't hear. The outside looks like a builder's yard and some people stop for long conversations and point to various pallets of materials. Why are people so rude?. Wibu to tell them all to feck off? It's like living in a bloody goldfish bowl.

PelvicFloorClenchReminder · 04/07/2016 23:08

Does "repurposed" mean it used to be a church etc?

I once dated a man who lived in a village hall converted into a house Smile

KissMyArse · 04/07/2016 23:25

I think it's far ruder and actually quite weird, to knock on some random's door and have a 'lovely chat' about the state of their house

this.

CharminglyGawky · 04/07/2016 23:25

It's not rude to stare at a house, as long as they aren't trying to peer into windows or something.

It is rude to stare at people.

KissMyArse · 04/07/2016 23:27

All sounds a bit fishy

Alisvolatpropiis · 04/07/2016 23:33

Is it a windmill turned into a house or something?

PopGoesTheWeaz · 04/07/2016 23:37

I remember a friend with a huge blue mohak complaining that people stared at her. Hmm

If you are going to live in a repurposed house , I think it's only fair to expect people to stare and have a reaction.

TanteRose · 04/07/2016 23:41

@ Worra Is it Nigel Farage's bus?

I remember a friend with a huge blue mohak complaining that people stared at her.

You see, I can understand that. To her it was perfectly normal and something that she sees in the mirror every day. Our personal 'normal' is often everyone else's 'freak'. I felt like that a lot of that back in the early 80's as my friends looked far more outrageous than, me so I saw myself as low key ( I had pink hair and facial piercings).

Sorry, didn't realise until I read this thread that I must be one of the rudest people on the planet. Just love looking at houses, especially old ones and modern ones with a difference.

BastardGoDarkly · 05/07/2016 00:07

Come on op! What was it? I'd love to live in that boot

TheRealAdaLovelace · 05/07/2016 00:10

once I was walking down the street and this old bird in a low cut top and pushed up exposed bosom walked towards me...well i couldnt really help having a look.....
Next thing she was screaming her head off at me! Silly old cow.

KC225 · 05/07/2016 01:08

Is It Justin's House at Ceebeebies?

BastardGoDarkly · 05/07/2016 01:16

Was she old though Ada ? Hmm

MidniteScribbler · 05/07/2016 01:24

Well really, how can you expect them not to stare?

BadLad · 05/07/2016 01:31

If you come back, OP, please tell us what in earth people say when they knock in the door for a chat.

I think I'd be a bit pissed off if I was ironing and answered the door, only to find some stranger saying "Hi, I was just passing, funny place you live in, were the architects on glue?".

FruStefanOla · 05/07/2016 07:44

I don't think I get the Russian plumber picture? Although he does look a bit like Hugh Laurie.

Anyway, what's wrong with looking at an unusual house?

Gatekeeper · 05/07/2016 07:47

Jesus... I am a person of a certain age

Ginslinger · 05/07/2016 07:51

oh yeah - busted! there I am with my little elderly hobby of house-staring and people don't like it. I'll stay at home with my Complan from now on.

You can't leave the thread without telling us what your house is. Are you Jonathan Creek?
