Parked in tesco before. If anything I was too far over to my left.

Woman parked on my right and flung her door open with some force- it shook my car which I was still sat in as I was on the phone to mum I hate people who talk on their phone in supermarkets

Anyway I got out of my car to check the damage- and she had dented and scrapped the paint off.

She stared to walk off and ran after her and said "excuse me- but youve just damaged my car?"

She was on a crutch. She responded with "she has difficulty getting out of the car at the moment". I told her that was no excuse and I would be noting down her registration, taking photos and calling my insurance company. She had plenty of room and honestly must not of been looking when she opened the door.

Her daughter then piped up and called me "a heartless fat cunt".

If you go to the askmid website, for £4 you can get her insurance details if you have the reg number.
Then give them a call (it also gives you her policy number) and make the claim direct with her insurers, though think you might have to notify yours, but should be a no fault claim.

loobyloo1234 · 04/07/2016 21:25

YANBU - she sounds like a twunt. As does her daughter. I would claim ... for the comment alone tbh. At least if they'd been polite you may have been able to let it go

wheresthel1ght · 04/07/2016 21:28

One of the Community health visitors dos this to my car in the GP's car park, she was also very rude about it. She refused to go through insurers and then failed to give me the cash for th garage/pay herself. She can he'd her tune when I rang her work and left a ranting message saying she wither paid up or I would go to the police!

Your insurance company will pursue hers if you have her details. And definitely report to the non emergency number for the police as your insurance will want a crime number

MammaTJ · 04/07/2016 21:31

I walk with a crutch atm and it is not a reason for flinging the car door open, I assure you!

It might just cause me to gently push the door in my clumsy attempts to get out of the car, but only gently. My use of a crutch does not restrict my use of common decency!

honeyroar · 04/07/2016 21:31

Surely if she's saying she couldn't get out of the car because she's on crutches she shouldn't be driving at all!! She might be in more trouble than she thinks.

PopGoesTheWeaz · 04/07/2016 21:33

agree about getting a quote first. We had someone scrape our parked car. They left a note and we got their insurance details. We got a quote of £200 for the repair from the local garage but she wanted to go through insurance so we did, the insurance garage repair cost £1200 and our premium went up £1000 (!!!!) even though our no claims bonus wasn't affected. FFS, insurance is such a racket.

YANB
She's BU if she thinks her mobility issues give her the right to damage people's cars without repercussions!

revealall · 04/07/2016 22:44

Please don't claim on the insurance. A bit of a dent and minor paint chip could be sorted quickly and easily. People claiming for everyday stuff is why insurance is expensive and why people don't leave their details.

I know it's annoying but it's one of those things. Sides get scratched in hedges, doors get dinked, hubcaps get scrapped.

Mycatsabastard · 04/07/2016 22:48

yanbu

I had a guy do this to me very recently, I was also sat in my car and he smacked his door into my passenger door twice as he'd left less than a foot between the two cars. Luckily mine wasn't damaged but when I drove past him I did shout 'DICK!' at him through my window. Made me feel slightly better.

Champagneformyrealfriends · 04/07/2016 22:57

revealall good point however the op's car was damaged by a person, not by a branch or pavement edge. I'd say if the repair is going to cost more than your excess then claim. I'd still report it though as criminal damage.

Lighteningirll · 04/07/2016 23:03

This happened to me in Tesco neither Tesco or the police gave a shit. Insurance company advised there was nothing they could do either.

Damselindestress · 04/07/2016 23:15

You are completely in the right and her daughter's disgusting behaviour would make me even more determined to pursue it. It honestly makes me sick that there are people who act like that and I am sorry to hear you had to deal with it. The crutch excuse doesn't even make sense anyway. She opened the door without checking there was sufficient space, which isn't a mobility issue.

MintyChops · 05/07/2016 00:23

Nasty, ignorant bitches. I would pursue this as far as I could, especially in light of the rudeness. And I would report her for driving whilst on crutches (don't know if her insurance would cover that but I'd certainly bring it up?). Anyway, I would send her as large a shitstorm as possible.

beetroot2 · 05/07/2016 00:28

You did park too close to her car but she damaged yours, difficult one as both at fault. At the end of the day I'd go with force was used and claim.

yougotitdude · 05/07/2016 01:12

I didnt beetroot. As I said if anything I was too close to the car on my left and she was on my right. There was a good gap between even my car and the parking line.

Thank you everyone for the advice

The daughter sounds awful OP...looking for a fight!

We had this in a service station carpark. Sat in our car, minding our own business, eating sandwiches and some woman pulls into the empty space next to us. She got out the car and WHAM! She smacked her door full force into our drivers side. The car actually shook. She barely glanced at us as she started walking away. I rapped on our window and said "excuse me! Do you mind!" Not my best...but hey...I was quite surprised. Hmm

She just shrugged her shoulders and said "it's just a car" and then scarpered before I could respond! I took pictures of her car and ours. Unbelievably there was no damage as we think she hit the plastic edging on the door.

I am not really sure what I would have done if she had actually dented it. I am not sure I would have pursued through insurance because of increased premiums. Maybe take it for a quote OP and see if it is cheap to fix?

NoahVale · 05/07/2016 18:18

good for you op.
