Not really an AIBU but thought I'd post in here for traffic , we have in laws who come from England and Wales , they were here visiting and we got onto the subject of differences ie they'd never heard of buckfast or Irn-bru Hmmdidn't have a clue what the orange walk was Shock and the education seems to be different ie they say there 'going to school' at 3 when here it's nursery and year 1 year 2 etc , we have p1,p2 etc , I found it weird that there so many differences when we're only a few hours drive away anybody else ?

Ah Buckie aka as commotion lotion/wreck the hoose juice. In one of the few April fools I've ever fallen for was that they were shifting production to Glasgow from Devon, which would make sense as most of it is drunk by underage bams in the West of Scotland.
That magic combination of alcohol, and caffeine that simultaneously lowers your inhabitations and gives you a tremendous amount of energy. All at a price your teenager can afford. What could possibly go wrong?

We sadly still have Orange Walks in Edinburgh.

Yep. Nowhere near in the scale of the ones in the West, but there's hotbeds of orangism in places like prestonpans. The sectarianism is less marked in football terms too. The divider is primarily (though not exclusively) geographic rather than religious, with those from the north and east of the city supporting Jobs and those from the South west following Hearts. I know plenty of Protestant Hibs fans and (I assume vice versa)

Another Glasgow girl here but living down South. Glasgow definitely the friendliest city in the UK and I've lived all over but I also love where I am and have been made very welcome. Still trying to get my head round the school system and battling to get my 11 year old a place in Y6 as he was born at the cut off for starting school at 4 in Scotland. They don't get that down here and have said he needs to go to high school!!

Love confusing people with terms like 'he's awfae glaikit looking' and' it gees me the dry boak' but all in all think the UK is great with all our differences.

Here's a thread I started in which I discover quite how much I don't know about Scotland (referendum related, so not entirely light hearted):
