AIBU?

AIBU to buy a new iPhone now?

First world problems Grin

My existing phone is around 3 years old and is in pretty bad shape.

I really fancy getting the iPhone 6s Plus and if I sell my old phone back along with my old tablet, I'll get a really good deal.

The trouble is- I've had people telling me that the new iPhone is releasing soon and I shouldn't get one now.

The idea of waiting even 3-4 months for a new phone is annoying because I am so ready to get rid of my existing one.

Aibu to want to get an iphone now if the new one is releasing within the year? I don't even know if I'll like the iPhone 7, the leaked pictures look pretty meh. But then again, if I like it, I'll feel pretty stupid.

Thoughts?

The new iPhone is usually released at the end of September, so I would wait until then.

I generally go for the previous model because I can't justify the price of the brand new one and it has never bothered me. The only reason I have the 6S (got it shortly after it came out) is because O2 have messed me around a lot in the past couple of years and when I phoned to tell them I was switching to 3, they offered to upgrade me from my old 4S to the 6S with no upfront fees and a decent data package for £28 a month. Otherwise I probably would have gone for the 5S.

I wanted the 6s but once I held then 6s plus in my hand, I just wanted a massive phone 😂

I've just upgraded my 3yo iPhone 5 for an iPhone 6. I have been with Vodafone for the last 3 years and I got the new phone for £60 and their £42 a month tariff for £29 a month. I was planning to move to Giff Gaff but Vodafone came in better.

The 5 was dying and basically shut off without warning when the battery was low. Couldn't really wait. I love the 6 though.

The plus is good and you don't need an iPad. If it's October that's the whole summer you'd be waiting to save how much £50?

I myslef have my phone for already 4 years probably. The best advise I go got was to wait till the last iphone releases which was march.
I reall like the features and mainly that it is not that humongous.

So I'd say do nmot wait another year or more. Iphone was released this yerar and will be next as well. Just go ahead an do it. Best past is that you can sell it in 2 years and buy Iphone 8, 9 or 10 .

I have the 6, would love to get the 7 because if leaked reports are correct there's no home button anymore so will be easier to use

Whichever one you get, get a low profile rubber case so that it bounces when it drops, granted the screen might still smash but a screen repair is cheaper than a whole new iphone

I have the spigen cover and had no issues yet
Before I had the 4s, dropped it lost and all wifi functions, 02 were useless

so it's really worth having a cover!

Nooooooo I love the home button!!!

I'm definitely getting the 6s if the new one doesn't have a home button

I've just got the SE, as I didn't like the size of the 6. And not too fussed about the very latest phone.

Due to our financial situation, I'd held on to my iPhone 4s for a very very long time. Didn't have a lot of time to faffabout with debating merits of other non Apple phones, as wanted to use DS's John Lewis discount (he leaves the end of this week)

Have had the SE just over a fortnight and its a fab phone that fits in my small hands, is as quick as the 6s and has much more memory for just over £400.

I'm going for an SE this week. Having had a 5c.
6 is too big for me / my pockets and I have an iPad mini if I want a big screen.

I actually want a bigger screen, don't fancy the SE for myself although it would save money.

I also won't go on a contract, prefer buying outright

I must be a Luddite. I'm still on a 3GS. It refuses to die, however hard I try.

SoupDragon 6 plus isn't that big.

Yes it is.

I find even the 6s little on the big side.

I am from a generation who remembers the house brick mobile phones. I do not want to be heading back that way :)

The 6S is about as big as I would want. I hope the 7S isn't bigger as that is when I would normally upgrade and hand the old ones one step down the chain of SmallDragons!

SoupDragon like I said, it isn't that big once you've got used to it... Plus I've saved myself a few hundred quid as I don't need to buy a tablet now!!

also don't listen to leaked rumours about what the iPhone 7 could look like (not even Apple employees know what it'll look like yet), you'll find out in September during the annual KeyNote event!

SoupDragon · 05/07/2016 18:13

unless you are me, you really can't say whether it is too big or not.

As I said in my first post, it is far too big for what I want from a phone.

How would not having a home button be EASIER to use?

Report
SoupDragon · 06/07/2016 08:12

I imagine they've replaced it with something like an icon maybe? They had problems with the home button breaking on some models didn't they so perhaps it makes sense not to have a mechanical one.

Let's face it - five minutes after you buy any new phone/laptop/tablet/device, they bring out a new one. Get it.

The thing is I REALLY want to get a new phone.

But I also really want to go on holiday.

Now I could do both but that would make a dent in the savings...
