To ask for advice on deadlifting and erm weeing myself

I've started weight training and I am really enjoying it.

However, when I deadlift heavy weights I wee a bit.

Today I lifted my heaviest weight yet (102.5kg so not too bad I don't think for a few months in) and did a full on wee on to the mats. I wanted the ground to open me up (trainer was a star and lovely about it but still)

I was wearing a tena pad due to less um gushing issues before but it went straight through it.

Does anyone else lift and have this problem and what do you do to help it? The weights are only going to up so I'm a bit worried :( And damp.

I do loads of kegels already. Trainer has said planking.

Any advice welcome as I am sooo embarassed and don't want to a) quit or b) require wellies to lift.

I've heard some weightlifters can poo themselves

a kind of machismo thing tied up with pushing yourself beyond normal limits Whilst I don't disagree about the machismo, that can be very, very ridiculous, it is also the difference between many pleasure lifters and professional sports people.

Using all of your body's energy reserves is how you train, increase energy reserves, muscle mass etc. A professional when training just doesn't back off at 'normal' levels of bodily stress.

It isn't as extreme as it sounds and is a regular part of all periodicised training. All athletes, from lifters to marathon runners, experience it, train to achieve such depletion... puking is part of that.

There's a blog/Facebook group called "Girls Gone Strong" that's discussed this issue before in detail. They included some exercises to help prevent it too. Worth searching for Smile

No advice but that is a fantastic deadlift! Congratulations!

Please see you GP. I too had a forceps delivery which left me with a prolapse which often causes continence issues. I've since had it repaired but have been told by the gynae absolutely no weightlifting whatsoever, for life. It's an absolute no no for pelvic floor issues and if it is indeed a prolapse you are likely to be making it worse. I was gutted as I has been a keen lifter, but it was that or carry on with my bladder and bowel falling out of my fanny. I'm obviously not saying it's that, but please get it ruled out.

I gave myself a prolapse just using g light weight machines at the gym 18 months after my eldests birth. You will be doing further damage and likely making any issues worse by lifting heavy weights.
