i have cancelled it but i feel bad - she asked me at a bad time, when i was at work, told me the price was now double. i did mention about how she could perhaps just pay weekly.
she is a student and off to university in september.
should i take back m y words simply for the usmmer?
can i even do this

Does she not get a reduced rate being a student? I'd recommend she looks into that.

NoahVale · 03/07/2016 09:55

good point mavis

Does she work at all and so could pay the extra herself?
It's a luxury not a necessity. Find a cheaper gym?

RJnomore1 · 03/07/2016 09:57

Check student discount then:

Does she use it? How much?
Is there a cheaper local option?
Can you afford it or is it causing financial pressure?

The Aib depends on all of those factors I reckon.

MrsSchulman · 03/07/2016 10:08

I would get her to pay the extra for the two months before she goes to university and then stop it and she can maybe go to the gym at university when she's there.

NoahVale · 03/07/2016 10:15

i might suggest she pays me in that case,
because so far it comes out via direct debit.
or at least look if there is anythign cheaper

Isn't there a gym facility at her uni?

bevelino · 03/07/2016 10:22

Noah don't feel bad. I will be cancelling dd's gym membership when she leaves for uni as she will want to join a local gym.

razmataz · 03/07/2016 10:23

Why can't she pay for it herself? Or join a cheaper gym - there's usually basic ones around that are only £15 or so a month, sometimes even less.

Going to the gym is a luxury, not an essential - it's easy to go for a run or workout at home for free. So no, I don't think you are being unreasonable.

NoahVale · 03/07/2016 10:24

it is hard,
because it is cancelled already, due to her age.
but it seems they made a cock up and she may well be ok for another month.
i have rung them,

thanks.
indeed. I will suggest she runs,

If she's off to university - she'll probably find the uni has a gym?
I know mine does - and it's really quite cheap! i think if you buy the membership in september - it works out about 90 /100 quid for the full year? and there's classes on etc - also a good way to meet friends!

Or she could look at an alternative gym - i'm in my 20s and my gym cost me £10 a month - there's no swimming pool or sauna but there's alot of gym equipment and classes on

Why isn't she paying for it herself?

BravingSpring · 03/07/2016 12:18

Salem I assume she's just finished sixth form.

Naoko · 03/07/2016 12:29

If you can't afford it, fair enough, but if you can I think it's not a great thing to cut back on. It'll only be for a few months until she goes to uni (I think when she does it's reasonable she pay her own membership in her uni town). And this is the exact time in your life it's easy to stop exercising - away from home, out of routine, possibly not eating the best student diet. If paying for the membership keeps her in the habit, I think that'd be a good thing.

madein1995 · 03/07/2016 12:53

As a pp said, running is free and healthy - no need to pay for gym membership neccesarily. Her uni gym will likely be a lot cheaper anyway and she can pay for that herself out of her udget

mysteryfairy · 03/07/2016 13:37

My DS1 uni gym is about £10 a month. He's just finished second year and both years I paid it as an annual fee in September.

When he's been home we've paid for a v basic little gym - no pool, extra for classes (which he never does anyway), but they charge either £10 or £15 a month, no contract and gives him access to the weights which running is not a substitute for. Look round for something like that as a stop gap?
